Quinton de Kock makes an explosive start by smashing Siraj for two sixes; first through vacant cover region and secondly over deep square leg region – that was an exceptional shot!
Mayank Yadav strikes with devastating speed to beat Green with ease – beating his edge and taking out his off stump in one fell swoop! RCB appear to be in difficulty here. Quinton de Kock
Quinton de Kock has been an indispensable member of the Lucknow Super Giants and has delivered many memorable knocks. He formed a formidable opening partnership with KL Rahul which enabled the team to win many matches. De Kock also earned numerous accolades for his performance during Indian Premier League.
De Kock is a skilled spin bowler and adept at both bisecting gaps and hitting through covers. Off Mayank Dagar he hit an enormous six over midwicket for six runs to reach 50 in 36 balls; although he could have reached the milestone much sooner.
Mayank Yadav left RCB reeling with his pace and three wickets as LSG cruised to an easy 28-run win at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Delhi. Clocking 156.7kph, Yadav became the fastest bowler ever in this season’s IPL to record such an achievement.
Even after an initially slow start, De Kock maintained his nerve and put pressure back onto RCB bowlers. De Kock particularly targeted Mohammed Siraj for two sixes in three consecutive overs; then hit Reece Topley for sixes and fours as well. Along the way he became only the 23rd batsman ever to reach 3,000 runs in T20 league history – joining AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis on that list! De Kock still has much to prove this season so will lead from the front once more!
Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran powered LSG to a convincing 28-run victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, smashing four sixes in the final two overs to help his side post 181/5. Shortly thereafter, Mayank Yadav made short work of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s batting line-up by picking off three wickets in just his first over, leading them down the path toward defeat at 153/6 by match’s end.
Quinton de Kock set the scene with his astounding 81 off 56 balls but it was Pooran who propelled them towards a competitive total in an otherwise high scoring stadium. On an eight-hitting spree and hitting five sixes in 41-ball innings unbeaten knock, Pooran became 36th player ever to hit 100 or more sixes during IPL history.
He reached this mark by smashing a 106-metre six off Yash Thakur in the penultimate over of the innings – breaking records held by Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma – breaking through 3000 IPL runs to rank 23rd all-time scorers list. Additionally, Super Giants opener then produced an unforgettable moment on the field when he ran out Mayank Dagar during an exciting penultimate over of play; marking this achievement for his club for the very first time!
Anuj Rawat
One catch in particular stood out during this game – LSG wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat’s amazing catch to send back Marcus Stoinis for a single was an outstanding display of cricketing skill and showed that patience and confidence pay dividends for glovemen.
Once KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock had set Bengaluru off on its way, their batting quickly collapsed at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Mustafizur Rahman’s powerplay overs bowling proved effective against Bengaluru’s top order, leaving them reeling at 78/5 after 11.4 overs.
Nicholas Pooran then made an unbeaten 40 off 21 balls to put Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) under pressure. The left-hander hit two sixes in the 19th over, as well as being helped along by Anuj Rawat’s drop catch that only compounded his success further.
Krunal Pandya and Yash Thakur’s catches kept Royal Challengers Bangalore competitive, but Rawat took an outstanding catch to give the home side the lead. Already having collected two wickets himself, Rawat now leads their leading wicket-taker stats; his fielding prowess was also displayed with an outstanding catch from him that sent back Devdutt Padikkal for just one run! In short, Rawat is one to keep an eye out for moving forward for RCB as he plays an essential part in their team!
Mayak Dagar
Quinton de Kock scored an excellent 81 off 56 balls for LSG while Nicholas Pooran notched up an unbeaten 40 off 21 to push LSG past 180 on a two-paced pitch. Unfortunately, Bengaluru lost some key catches – Krunal Pandya put down an easy chance off de Kock in the first over and they let Anuj Rawat slip away through their grasp as well.
Mayank Dagar of RCB has been remarkable with the ball during this match. The spinner ripped through the middle order, helping his side to amass an impressive total. Mayank was given encouragement by captain Virat Kohli to do well and it showed in his performance.
De Kock hit two sixes off Mohammed Siraj in the second over, showing his impressive form and looking set to score his maiden century of the season – it would be fantastic if that happened!
However, he was eventually bowled by Yash Thakur who seemed to be gathering momentum. Naveen-ul-Haq took an excellent catch off Yash Thakur’s bowling to dismiss Dinesh Karthik and maintain momentum for his youngster side.
Yash Thakur
Yash Thakur is an exciting young Indian cricketer playing for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. As a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler, he shows great promise as an emerging cricketer; his performance at 2021-22 Vijay Hazare Trophy helped cement his spot on LSG squad.
De Kock seems in good form as he hits Siraj for two sixes over deep square leg and long off. With these hits, De Kock reached 3000 IPL runs and moved into 23rd on the all-time scorers list.
Faf du Plessis of RCB hopes to turn around their poor start to the season by winning the toss and electing to bowl first.
Mohsin Khan replaces Mohammad Siraj due to an injury, while Yash Thakur makes his Giants debut.
Challengers’ openers saw them reach 59/1 after 10 overs, but two wickets fell within this time span to limit their batting success. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy took control with each picking up one wicket to help reduce Challengers’ total.
Naveen-ul-Haq
Naveen-ul-Haq is an aggressive fast bowler who can attack at all stages of a game. His career began in the ACC U-19 Premier League before being selected for Afghanistan at the 2016 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup. Domestic Twenty20 cricket also provides him with ample experience; having represented several Indian clubs.
Yash Thakur took two wickets in the last over to bring Lucknow Super Giants closer to victory, after earlier bowling an excellent spell allowing only three runs in his opening over. Additionally, in 2023 he claimed a four-wicket haul against Mumbai Indians during IPL play.
RCB batsmen struggled to gain momentum during the run chase. KL Rahul tried to up the ante by hitting Maxwell for six, only for him to top-edge and be caught by Mayak Dagar instead. De Kock then hit four off Krunal Pandya.
M Siddharth bowled an effective opening over, giving his batsmen a quick start with singles off M Siddharth’s bowling. But spinner Devdutt Padikkal quickly reined back in by trapping Krunal Pandya deep midwicket before getting Dinesh Karthik edging one to Rahul behind the stumps while trying a pull shot and edgeing it directly back out again.
