History
Sri Lanka Cricket runs and administers the men’s national cricket team of Sri Lanka, known as Sri Lanka Cricket National Team. Over its history, they have won many trophies and proven themselves an international force; currently ranking 8th for ODIs, 9th in T20Is, and 6th in Tests respectively based on player strength, quality bowling/batting performance and consistency of performances.
The team first found considerable success during the 1990s, winning several ICC Champions Trophy titles and the 1996 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Their aggressive batting style earned international acclaim and established them as one of the premier limited-overs teams worldwide. Furthermore, Sri Lanka finished runners-up in both 2007 and 2011 Cricket World Cups; producing world-class players like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene during that period.
Since Sangakkara and Jayawardene retired in 2015, however, the team has struggled to regain its form. They placed ninth out of ten teams at the 2019 World Cup tournament; moreover, major global tournaments such as World T20 remain out of reach for them.

Sri Lanka Cricket provides central contracts to all its players who regularly appear in ODIs and T20Is, with only the most talented being chosen to represent Sri Lanka at national team level; others such as Niroshan Dickwella, Dushan Hemantha and Praveen Jayawickrama remain uncapped players.
