Bangladesh have made an improbable comeback, standing on 107/3 with Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim at the crease. India bowler Akash Deep struck early in the morning session by dismissing Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam from their respective innings.
Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal shared an opening stand of 75 runs before Jaiswal fell prey to Jaker Ali, caught by Mustafizur, scoring 29 off 14 balls. In the Bangladesh National Cricket Team vs India National Cricket Team Match Scorecard, Ravindra Jadeja remains just one wicket away from reaching an impressive milestone of 300 wickets in Test cricket.
Day 1
India made an explosive start to their first Test match against Bangladesh at Kanpur with Sanju Samson scoring 111 and Suryakumar Yadav contributing 75 runs each. Though they lost an early wicket, India made their intentions known and took them apart mercilessly.
Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto provided some resistance at first but eventually their hosts were reduced to 91/3 by midway mark. From that point forward, bowlers chipped away at them until eventually the visitors found themselves buried deep under their own scores.
Akash Deep took India’s initial wicket when he dismissed Zakir Hasan for 32 runs and later claimed another wicket when Shanto fell leg before. Subsequently, Ravi Ashwin removed Shanto himself for just six runs, leaving the visitors on 92/6 at lunch.
As expected, today was a disappointing day for the tourists, who were looking to build on their win against Pakistan by rectifying top order issues if they are to make any kind of comeback in this Test series.
Rohit Sharma escapes an LBW call against Hasan Mahmud after the pacer deceived him with a deceptive nipbacker from Hasan Mahmud and the umpire decided not to give out an LBW call against Hasan Mahmud, with Hardik Pandya continuing his battering of Bangladeshi bowlers by creating an 85-run partnership with Riyan Parag. At the close of session Mehidy strikes again to remove Rahul as India draw nearer 300 runs than ever.
Day 2
After being postponed due to rain on Day 1, play resumed with Bangladesh struggling to gain any momentum and falling to 107/3 before lunch as Akash Deep’s two wicket-taking performances reduced them further, taking Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque before lunchtime.
After lunch, India continued its dominating performance against their visitors with their bowlers ripping through them like never before. Shadman Islam made a valiant half-century, but the rest of their innings was an abject failure as Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets to put India in control of proceedings.
Bangladesh never managed to match up to India despite heroic overnight batsmen Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan’s efforts, who both played brilliant innings; unfortunately their approach was too sluggish, leading them to collapse regularly in their innings.
Bangladesh are experiencing a difficult tour, losing all their games so far and returning home disappointed by their performance – but they know it is only temporary as new beginnings await them.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first, in hopes that his seamers might find some assistance on an often spin-friendly pitch.
While India had an encouraging start, quickly losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill before tea. Following tea, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul added a crucial 89-run stand after which Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each to complete an emphatic win – for Bangladesh Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan both picked up one wicket each. As a result of this success India earned a 227 run lead going into their second innings in Dhaka with confidence!
Day 3
Indian cricket team triumphed decisively against Bangladesh in the second Test at Kanpur by an innings and 285 runs, led by Rohit Sharma’s side which played without maiden overs during either of the two days – this impressive performance by Rohit’s men has been described by former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja as “historic”.
Bangladesh had difficulty scoring runs during their second essay against India at home but were temporarily relieved when Shadman Islam scored a half-century and formed a 55-run partnership with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 55. But their resistance proved short-lived as Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin took wickets regularly – eventually bowling Bangladesh out for just 146 runs to hand the visitors their worst loss ever against Indian opposition at home.
Bangladesh batters showed great intent despite deplorable conditions on a flat Chepauk pitch, yet were met by Mohammed Siraj who sent Mehidy Hasan Miraz back for 35 by Bumrah before Mohammed Siraj removed Shakir Hasan for just two.
Pant and Gill were once again dominant for India, both scoring their maiden Test tons. Bangladesh must step up their performance if they hope to have any hope of reaching the target, otherwise India is sure to overwhelm their chase. Thus far they’ve looked unstoppable; for Bangladeshi batsmen it will require upping their game if they hope to compete effectively against them.
Day 4
India bowled Bangladesh out for 233 on Day 4 of the first Test match at MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Captain Rohit Sharma and left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to an excellent start but were both dismissed before capitalising. Rohit managed 23 runs off 11 balls while Yashasvi was caught by Mehidy Hasan Miraz off some clean hits in long-on boundary area by Mehidy Hasan Miraz after hitting some powerful blows.
Indian batsmen struggled on a pitch that provided little assistance for spinners. Bangladesh batters showed some resilience but weren’t able to score large scores; Jasprit Bumrah struck early with an excellent delivery and dismissed Zakir Hasan for 33 with ease.
But the visitors lost momentum as wickets started falling regularly, including Ravindra Jadeja taking two scalps off Hasan Mahmud and Mominul Haque in consecutive overs to leave them at 107/3 and Jadeja claiming his 300th wicket in Test cricket.
Shakib Al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto shared a fifty-run stand to keep the visitors competitive but it was too late. India took an early 1-0 lead in this three-match series thanks to this victory; this victory will give their side an enormous confidence boost ahead of touring Australia and New Zealand this winter; plus it proved their ability to play aggressively when needed; acting as a warning that India can be dangerous when put under pressure.
Day 5
Mominul Haque attempts to sweep KL Rahul but gets an edge which goes to leg side and just ahead of wicketkeeper who took an incredible catch! This blow for Bangladesh was severe as they lost their first-innings centurion early on the final day at Kanpur.
Jasprit Bumrah returns to attack and immediately strikes. With one short ball from him, Rishabh Pant catches behind to take another wicket from Bangladesh’s innings. This marks their seventh wicket fall.
Indian bowlers have delivered an unexpected performance and this has revitalized Test cricket. Their bowlers have played with unpredictability and with no mercy; playing their unique brand of cricket would have been considered mind-numbing stupidity only recently – now, however, it has come to define them and give it new life.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has emerged as India’s new hero as he plays his natural brand of cricket. After hitting a single to the leg side off Shakib Al Hasan and making it to 50 without difficulty – an all-time great? This is his inaugural fifty in Test cricket!
After an afternoon session devoid of wickets, India are determined to close out these eight wickets and have started off well in this afternoon session. Rohit Sharma introduces Jasprit Bumrah and within one delivery he has Taijul Islam caught on the pads – signalling LBW by umpire but Bangladesh opting for review on-field decision – marking Bangladesh’s ninth wicket fall this innings.
