RR vs DC
At Sawai Mansingh Stadium for IPL action, both teams stand a strong chance at making it to the semi-finals – yet both will find this game close. Both sides currently sit equal on points at the top of the table; however, Delhi Capitals hold an edge with two wins under their belt.
Rishabh Pant has had an outstanding start to his innings, while Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel are also showing promising signs. Yet all three need to put forth extra efforts if they wish to win this match.
Head-to-Head Stats
Rajasthan Royals have won 15 out of 28 matches played against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, while Delhi have claimed 13 victories against them. Their most recent encounter occurred in 2024 when Rajasthan secured victory by 12 runs despite Sanju Samson scoring an excellent century against Ravichandran Ashwin before ultimately being dismissed by him.
Kuldeep Yadav proved the difference between both teams. He bowled two overs that yielded just 11 runs, while Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel put on an outstanding partnership of 65 off only 36 balls.
RR have brought in Nandre Burger as a replacement for Shimron Hetmyer. Khaleel Ahmed will bowl the final over.
RR batting first
The Rajasthan Royals have taken to opening up in most of their matches this season, often batting first. Their batsmen have struggled to score big totals; only crossing 200 runs 21 times. The team hopes that scoring some big scores can propel it towards reaching the top of the table and taking control of their destiny.
In their previous match against KKR, the Royals lost by nine wickets when batting first at Sawai Mansingh Stadium despite possessing home ground advantage. When batting first there, their record is poor – only winning one out of their six attempts there!
RR started poorly, losing both openers within the powerplay before Riyan Parag and captain Samson joined forces to consolidate their innings. Buttler went on to score an unbeaten 116 off 65 balls that included nine fours and five sixes for an outstanding display that earned him Player of the Match honours.
Royals were reduced to 198/6 after Rahul Tewatia fell victim to Nandre Burger. Shimron Hetmyer and Samson led Royals back up towards 197 before Hetmyer was bowled by Avesh Khan in the final over.
Avesh Khan excelled during Delhi’s final over against him. He defended 17 runs while conceding only four, using yorkers to get batters out. Avesh expressed satisfaction with his performance in death overs as well as appreciating their efforts of batsmen he thanked for contributing.
RR bowling
Sunil Narine did an outstanding job in helping KKR post a huge total. He took three wickets during the match, keeping their momentum alive. But it was Jos Buttler who proved instrumental in helping RR chase down and beat their target of 223, hitting an astonishing 109 off 56 balls, featuring 13 fours and sixes!
The Royals batsmen gave themselves every chance in this high-scoring encounter. Sanju Samson made his maiden half century as captain, providing a serious threat against Delhi batsmen aided by Ajinkya Rahane and Shimron Hetmyer.
RR bowlers were outstanding as they kept SRH batsmen at bay with precision bowling from Trent Boult and Avesh Khan who each took three wickets – all done so swiftly without allowing batsmen any chance to settle into their shots. Both spinners bowled fast with pace that never allowed batsmen any respite before their next assault on wicket.
RR won the toss and elected to field first, restricting SRH’s score to an underwhelming 156 runs in 20 overs with their impressive fielding performance and strong batsmanship that made reaching their target more challenging for them.
RR run-chase
Rajasthan Royals began the season strong but slipped down the table quickly, winning only six games consecutively before their loss at Sharjah Cricket Stadium to Punjab Kings. But, just before their break, RR finally found some form of success when Sanju Samson hit seven maximums and four fours to bring the match within striking distance of victory before his dismissal in 17th over. But Rahul Tewatia then hit five sixes during Sheldon Cottrell’s over to turn around the match entirely!
As they set about chasing down an ambitious 224-run target, RR started their chase brilliantly. Even after losing Jos Buttler cheaply early on in their chase, skipper Steve Smith and Sanju Samson led them to 69/1 within six overs – marking an unprecedented Powerplay score in IPL history.
But, KKR battled back from their slow start to reach 223/6 after Sunil Narine completed his maiden T20 century. But Jos Buttler came through as one of the greatest innings ever seen in IPL history to help steer RR over the finishing line with two balls remaining.
With their win, Rajasthan Royals equalled and then broke the highest successful run-chase record ever seen in IPL history – breaking a 12-year-old mark against Deccan Chargers back in 2008. This achievement places RR at equal or above-par points on the points table despite trailing Chennai Super Kings by 6 points.
RR win
Delhi Capitals bowlers were successful in getting wickets at regular intervals to put themselves into an advantageous position and eventually secure a 20-run victory against Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, marking their ninth game won of the season and propelling them up three places into third place with 12 points for playoff contention – joining Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad who both already hold such wins in their arsenals.
RR batsmen failed to capitalize on their early momentum and lost Abishek Porel and Shai Hope early, leaving themselves vulnerable. Jake Fraser made up for it with his 19-ball fifty, before eventually being caught by Rohit Sharma – but only until Sharad Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant were removed one after the other in quick succession.
Kuldeep Yadav led the Delhi Capitals bowlers with two wickets at 25 against Pune Supergiant, alongside Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar who also each took two scalps.
Rishabh Pant was disappointed with DC’s performance but believes they can take lessons from it. Mitchell Marsh and David Warner provided them with an effective platform, but lost their way in the death overs. Pant also revealed he wanted to use Anrich Nortje in the final over but did not risk using him due to having such a substantial lead already.
Sanju Samson of Rajasthan Royals was pleased with their performance against Uttar Pradesh. He believes they are superior than their current rankings suggest and can continue to advance with each game they play. Samson also applauded their bowlers’ hard work.
