Faf du Plessis of RCB believes that dropping catches can have serious repercussions, which is why it is crucial to continue picking up wickets during the Powerplay and bowl effectively at the death.
De Kock strikes two boundaries off Siraj: first through the vacant cover region and then over mid-off respectively. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran executes an exceptional direct hit that dismisses Kohli for just 27 runs. For a detailed analysis of the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Lucknow Super Giants Match Scorecard, stay tuned.
Quinton de Kock 81
Quinton de Kock’s masterful fifty and Mayank Yadav’s youthful brilliance helped Lucknow Super Giants beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 28 runs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in an intense encounter. De Kock struck 8 fours and 5 sixes during his 56-ball 81, as LSG reached 181-5 off 20 overs before dismissing Royal Challengers Bengaluru batsmen for just 152 in reply.
De Kock put on an impressive show as LSG took an early lead against Australia. The opener hit two stunning sixes and a boundary off pacer Mohammed Siraj in the opening over, before smashing three more sixes off pacer Glenn Maxwell to score 62 off 34 balls before being bowled by Glenn Maxwell.
Maxwell began the downfall of RCB’s batting when he scalped Dinesh Karthik and Marcus Stoinis quickly in quick succession due to poor shot selection and an overall lack of intent from their batters.
LSG were making steady progress after losing their opening pair, but De Kock’s departure proved devastating as his absence left them struggling to form partnerships and gain ground against rival teams.
Yash Thakur comes on for the final over, and immediately strikes by taking out Lomror with his very first ball. Lomror was trying for a pull shot but mistimed his stroke and was caught out at mid-off by Padikkal for just 9.1.
Marcus Stoinis 62
Faf du Plessis and Marcus Harris provided some much-needed support as the two batsmen shared an outstanding 115-run partnership to help the visitors post an attractive total. But RCB bowlers managed to keep run rates under control after that and ultimately scored 212/2 from 20 overs, with Mayank Yadav (3/23) standing out among his fellow bowlers such as Naveen-ul-Haq (2/34) and Yash Thakur (1/24).
After losing three wickets early, LSG found themselves struggling for starts as they fell to 37/3 after three overs had passed, but Marcus Stoinis came through and scored his maiden fifty of the season, smashing some massive sixes down the ground during a fantastic knock of 65(30). LSG ultimately posted an impressive total.
With his bat, he continued to score boundary after boundary and even take on spinners to score runs quickly – taking on spinners to score quick runs – before falling victim to an innocent shot from Shahbaz Ahmed at point in the final over which was caught out by him and was caught off his stumps by him at point.
Though disappointed by his dismissal, he still had some effective hitting left in him and will no doubt look forward to playing more matches for LSG in future.
Faf du Plessis of Royal Challengers was clearly disappointed with their loss but also believed that dropping catches contributed to it. He believed they should have pursued an aggressive pursuit for a bigger total given such a vital matchup, yet their bowlers let them down with poor consistency in death overs. Mayank Yadav had an outstanding game but consistency needs to improve across their team when facing off in death overs. Additionally, du Plessis wants his side to play better during Powerplay sessions and require partnerships between teammates that enable successful chases when faced against tough opponents like that one.
Mayank Dagar 59
RCB bowlers have put pressure on LSG batsmen; Quinton de Kock has performed admirably, but he doesn’t receive much support from Marcus Stoinis or their top order has failed to click in terms of runs scored so far.
Mayank Dagar has been impressive with the ball. Hailing from Delhi, Mayank uses his pace effectively to deceive batsmen into making mistakes with their timing, taking two wickets in the powerplay alone and looking set to cause havoc for RCB’s middle order.
Pooran returns for the 16th over and makes his mark, beating Siraj’s drive with swift pace to take an easy wicket. Pooran struck again, beating RCB skipper Siraj with sheer pace before taking him off with ease when he attempted an aggressive run and got top-edged; Pooran swiftly collected it at midwicket.
Yash Thakur conceded only three runs in his over, further applying pressure to RCB batsmen. Mahipal Lomror struck 18 runs off two balls at the end of that over and is already up to 22 off eight deliveries.
LSG are inching closer and closer towards a competitive total, yet their batsmen appear weary and require quick hits from their top order to keep the scoreboard moving.
Naveen ul Haq to Mohammed Siraj: No run, full length on stumps; Siraj goes back and attempts an uppercut shot but misses completely; ball goes into keeper and out for 12.
Naveen-ul-Haq 40
Faf du Plessis of Royal Cape Bank won the toss and elected to bat first. Due to injury to Mohsin Khan, Yash Thakur replaced him in their playing 11. Reece Topley was included for RCB instead of Alzarri Joseph in their starting 11.
Mahipal Lomror and Glenn Maxwell had started off strongly by sharing a 36-run partnership to get things rolling for RCB; but after Lomror was dismissed any hope they had of winning were dashed as LSG proved far superior in all departments resulting in a comprehensive win by LSG and an innings rout for them.
Dinesh Karthik provided excellent support to Lomror with his 40 off 26 balls, boasting six fours and two massive sixes – including an exquisite shot into the sightscreen to provide some much-needed momentum for RCB.
Rahul and Siraj used their bowling to control the first half of the match as Rahul shared one wicket each with Siraj to limit RCB runs. Siraj provided an important breakthrough by trapping Kohli just before stumps before dismissing Dinesh Karthik later in an over.
Du Plessis became the third batsman to fall, miscuing a pull shot off Siddharth and being caught behind the stumps by Siddharth. Du Plessis then tore apart Yash Thakur in the last over as the hosts rampaged to victory.
Naveen-ul-Haq then combined with pacer Mohammed Siraj to further dismantle RCB’s hopes of victory, after returning to Afghanistan’s World Cup squad after an extended absence.
The match between RCB and LSG took place at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium for their inaugural encounter in Indian Premier League play, broadcast live by Star Sports.
