Rishabh Pant claims the dew made bowling difficult during the game. Additionally, he was extremely pleased with how Jake Fraser-McGurk batted during the Powerplay, a key moment highlighted in the Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match scorecard.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma led their attack with an amazing powerplay performance of 125 runs combined for Travis to set an IPL record, with their partnership sharing an outstanding 89 run stand to put SRH firmly in commanding position against DC.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma wasted no time punishing DC bowlers with powerful hitting. Head hit Khaleel Ahmed for 19 runs – hitting two sixes over long-on and deep midwicket as Abhishek lofted drive over extra cover yielding four runs for SRH.
Abhishek continued his assault in the next over, smashing Lalit Yadav for three consecutive sixes over long-on and deep midwicket as well as a four through covers en route to his second fifty of the tournament.
Abhishek continued his assault, hitting Yadav for three more sixes before adding four through covers to reach 96 off 60 balls and secure victory for SRH in 10 overs.
In the seventh over, South Road Hospital lost one of their best batsman, David Warner to injury after Washington Sundar struck him on his back leg while trying to run a single. Warner was taken for scans which revealed a fractured ankle – ruling him out from further participation.
Prithvi Shaw made an instant impact as an impact sub, attacking Khaleel Ahmed with aggressive strokeplay before succumbing to him on ball five of the over. Shaw hit four consecutive boundaries against Ahmed before eventually falling victim himself on ball five.
SRH increased their total by 17 runs during the final overs, as Shahbaz Nadeem hit an emphatic six into the crowd bringing his personal score up to 38 off 24 balls and Samad attempted another big six but missed it instead, giving SRH an advantageous position.
DC 199/10 in 19.1 overs
Travis Head and Shahbaz Ahmed led Hyderabad’s extraordinary effort in reaching a mammoth 266/7 total at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi, to beat Delhi Capitals by 67 runs. Head made an unbeaten 89 off 32 balls while Shabaz scored unbeaten 59 not out; their huge total propelled SRH up the table to second spot; for DC Jake Fraser-McGurk (42) and Abhishek Porel (44 not out) made notable contributions despite losing three wickets during final over of play as visitors fell short by large margin.
Rishabh Pant was the final man out and caught at deep fine leg by T Natarajan off Nitish Reddy before they all-out for 199. With this loss, the Capitals fell from second place on the points table into third position – their first loss in three matches having also ended their two-match winning run in competition.
Pat Cummins wanted to make his home ground debut a success and was assisted by an excellent bowling performance from his team-mates.
Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first, replacing Ishant Sharma with Lalit Yadav and Anrich Nortje in place of Sumit Kumar who had suffered back spasms in previous games – Ishant was out for this match due to being out with injury.
Hyderabad’s batsmen got off to an excellent start, racing to 123/3 within six overs before Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel struck, taking some key wickets which destabilised their innings. Abhishek and Shahbaz then formed an important 131-run partnership which took SRH past 200 runs.
At the other end, DC’s batsmen struggled against the fast bowling from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Kuldeep Yadav made swift work of both Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant, before striking twice within two overs to remove both players – Kuldeep then took two wickets within three balls when Stubbs fell to an outstanding yorker ball by Kuldeep Yadav to end Delhi innings for just 199.
Pat Cummins was impressed with his side’s performance after the match, noting how they had restricted batsmen during Powerplay overs. Additionally, the dew factor played its part as it caused earlier ball stoppage than expected. If they could have kept them between 220-230 runs away they may still had a chance at victory and thanked Jake Fraser-McGurk and Shahbaz Ahmed for all of their hard work.
SRH won by 67 runs
Hyderabad were in full force from the outset thanks to Travis Head (89) and Abhishek Sharma’s (46) brilliant opening partnership, reaching 266/7 in 20 overs with help from Shabaz Ahmed (59) as they posted the fourth highest total in IPL history.
Rishabh Pant and company started off strong in their chase of an impossible target as they raced to the second-highest Powerplay score ever scored in IPL history at 125 runs. Unfortunately, however, an incredible spell by Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel’s bowling brought them back down to Earth – especially once Abhishek Porel and Jake Fraser-McGurk had been dismissed – seemingly beyond any possibility of reaching this monumental target.
Mayank Markande strikes quickly for SRH by dismissing Abhishek Porel for 44 runs off 22 balls and then followed that up by taking down Abhishek Sharma for an abject golden duck performance – with DC having conceded 88/6 in 6 overs, they are well behind their asking rate.
SRH have taken an impressive step toward qualifying for the quarter-finals by defeating Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024’s 35th match, an important comeback win after losing their previous two matches and potentially falling off of top four contention.
With their win, SRH now have seven points and two victories from six matches played to claim second place on the points table – just two behind leader Mumbai Indians but four ahead of third-placed KKR.

Head made his fifty run faster than any previous season but unfortunately was dismissed by Axar Patel just short of making 100.
Pat Cummins of Southern R H was pleased with their victory on Wednesday as both teams’ bowlers struggled during the Powerplay. Additionally, the pitch has since slowed down slightly but remains an ideal batting wicket and Cummins was particularly delighted by how his batsmen have responded after poor performances in recent matches. Cummins particularly applauded Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Sharma’s contributions; both were exceptional and helped put them in winning position in this match; also noted his delight with how disciplined they have closed out bowling action this game with no one left to worry about.
