Following India’s total dominance on Day 1, Rishabh Pant and Rahane face an immense task of getting Windies close to matching India’s total score.

India vs West Indies
Weather has once again played havoc with the final Test of this series. After being washed out during the opening session of today, all play will resume tomorrow morning for full day of play – giving both teams an opportunity to resume from where they left off after such a disappointing series conclusion.
India established an early lead on Day 1, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul and Harshit Rana’s three wickets. Meanwhile, Windies batsmen struggled under intense middle order pressure from India’s bowlers.
Mikyle Louis’ gritty 71 and Alick Athanaze’s composed presence led their side to an impressive total of 250/6 on day one. After suffering an inauspicious start as both openers were dismissed quickly, Louis and Athanaze restored their partnership to ensure home advantage was protected from further losses.
Indian bowlers got off to an impressive start with two wickets from Ravichandran Ashwin while Motie, Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar each took one wicket each. Unfortunately for Windies batsmen they failed to capitalise on this momentum as they were bowled out for just 104 in reply.
India currently leads by 338 runs with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal both looking in fine touch. Jaiswal rocked back inside his crease against a rising Pat Cummins delivery and slashed it beautifully through backward point for four. Gill also rocked back inside and hit one through midwicket for another boundary; making for an exciting period of batting!
1st Day
An exciting day at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound saw West Indies reach 250/6 after being asked to bat first. Mikyle Louis and Alick Athanaze led their side before their 107-run partnership was ended by Taskin Ahmed’s late wicket. Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah continued his impressive form by taking one wicket off his opening delivery of the day; leaving West Indies struggling at 130/6.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul will open up India’s innings, with Mitchell Starc bowling for Australia. Starc finds some swing in his delivery outside off, which edged debutant Nathan McSweeney at slip gully; however, an on-field umpire did not approve and therefore the review did not go his way.
Hasan Mahmud strikes again! Nips back sharply for Joshua Da Silva who looks down the wrong line before misplaying and missing an off-cut that hits both front pad and leg stump; therefore the appeal was unsuccessful and Joshua Da Silva walked off.
Washington Sundar will replace Rahul as India continue their pursuit of quick runs, joining Rishabh Pant who has struggled against new ball but now has an opportunity to revive his innings and prove his worth to India. If he wants to retain his spot he needs to score big; otherwise his place will be forfeit. While in Rahul’s absence Washington Sundar hopes a big innings can boost him up the rankings and bring closer in on Rohit Sharma.
2nd Day
Today marks a bright beginning as we resume play for the first time since rain halted play in our last session. Bowlers have begun their work and hopefully, the pitch stays dry throughout this afternoon’s match play.
India openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal have taken India to 105-1 after 25 overs, thanks to Jaiswal’s patient batplay that finds gaps easily.
Jaiswal edges the ball to third man off Hazlewood but isn’t enough for a run-out, hitting instead a short-of-length delivery into long leg for another single. Marsh replaces Hazlewood with Travis Head but India continue playing him well.
In the 20th over, Jaiswal works the ball into the gap at midwicket for four. An umpire raises their finger but these calls for LBW are disapproved upon review since Ball Tracking shows the ball hit into his pads instead.
Windies have found themselves in some difficulty here, after losing five wickets within the first hour on day three. Their chance at drawing level had seemed promising but Mohammed Siraj quickly ran through their lower order with five wickets taken by India’s Mohammed Siraj to give India an impressive 183-run advantage.
Mikyle Louis’ heroic 71 off 166 balls propelled the Windies to an admirable total of 116-3 on Day 2, but their innings quickly unravelled when Kavem Hodge and Alick Athanaze were dismissed by Bangladesh spinners Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam respectively. With 90s likely in their future it’s uncertain how the visitors will fare during the final session.
3rd Day
India made their way through an excellent day with the bat, dominating Optus Stadium against Australia to reach 172/0 with a 218-run lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against them by hitting fifties from KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, giving India an overwhelming lead at Optus. Meanwhile, Windies struggled against Taskin Ahmed’s early wickets but Mikyle Louis held firm by scoring an unbeaten unbeaten 71 off 166 balls to guide their innings to an impressive final day victory.
As they take to the field after tea with some nerves still present, Pat Cummins bowls his first over and Jaiswal hits one to short leg for a single. A couple of more singles follow before Jaiswal hits one to midwicket to bring up fifty.
Shubman Gill then joined his partner and began to put Australian bowlers off balance, hitting one through the covers for four and then sending another past the long-on boundary for six.
Few more runs have been scored before Starc replaces Cummins. He attempts to sneak one through to the batsman but fails; as sunlight begins to diminish, the pitch is drying up rapidly making it increasingly difficult for batsmen to maintain good visual contact with the ball.
India are now averaging just 5 runs an over in their first innings – an incredibly low figure for them on tour – which puts them in jeopardy of suffering an embarrassing defeat and will undoubtedly be their main concern moving forward.
Final Score
Brandon King and Evin Lewis hit fifties to lead West Indies past India and claim a series win in T20I cricket against India. West Indies now qualify for the semi-finals where they will meet reigning champion South Africa for an epic showdown.
Windies lost wickets early, with Balwinder Sandhu taking out Gordon Greenidge and Madan Lal dismissing Desmond Haynes and Viv Richards quickly. But their batsmen rallied back, creating an impressive 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket but in the end it proved too little too late for their hosts.
Nicolas Pooran took full advantage of Krunal Pandya’s full delivery by smashing it over the long-on fence for six. Kieron Pollard then edged across to third man where Rishabh Pant caught him for 55, concluding his outstanding 66-run partnership with Powell.
Kuldeep Yadav makes an excellent start to his over, conceding just three runs off it including one leg bye. Nicolas Pooran then successfully reviews against this same bowler as his LBW decision is overturned; and goes on to hit two fours and a six in his next three deliveries as West Indies seek to reach their target quickly.
Chinelle Henry made her mark early by striking two fours and six off Renuka Yadav’s opening over, but West Indies will need 45 off 12 overs to win this match. Furthermore, their fielders continue to drop wickets at regular intervals; now, West Indies must hope that things turn around in their favor in the second half of their innings without their key players present.
