Qualifier 2 between KKR and SRH will take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. Both sides have an excellent chance at reaching the final.
Mitchell Starc has been on form this season and could prove pivotal for KKR against Sunrisers’ batsmen, who have struggled against spinners this time around. As the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad players go head-to-head, Mitchell poses an enormous threat against spinners, making him a key player in this match.
Sunil Narine
Sunil Narine of Arima, Trinidad is one of the most enigmatic players in modern cricket, known for his unpredictable playing style and deceptive bowling technique, as well as his uncanny ability to baffle batsmen with ease. Born May 26, 1988 and making his international debut with Trinidad and Tobago on 2009 – quickly establishing himself with outstanding spin bowling abilities which earned him selection to compete in Champions League Twenty20 before leading him onto Kolkata Knight Riders roster for 2024 IPL season.
Following his success during IPL 2024 season, he was appointed captain of KKR for 2024 season. His leadership is essential to their success; while his outward appearance may fool some observers, his inner power makes up for any superficial differences; he motivates teammates and is an outstanding strategist.
He’s known to regularly pick up key wickets and keep opponents’ run rates under control, with an economical pace and ability to whack both ways the ball for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Sunrisers Hyderabad can expect him to pose an immediate challenge to their batsmen.
He is one of the most valuable assets for any franchise, and is expected to have an outsized impact against SRH in their IPL match. He could particularly pose a threat against players like AB de Villiers and Shane Watson who both boast strike rates exceeding 200.
A win against Sunrisers Hyderabad would be another significant milestone on KKR’s way back up the IPL table. As they look towards making playoffs and needing a victory against strong opposition like SRH, a win would provide another boost towards reaching finals and beyond. They can draw inspiration from their last match against Mumbai Indians where they overcame an early deficit to come back and win, something which KKR did successfully last time against Mumbai Indians – they’ll need this type of performance against SRH – they could be well on their way!
David Warner
Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 48 runs in Hyderabad on Sunday thanks to David Warner’s brilliant century performance. The Australian opened with an innings that featured 10 fours and eight sixes from 126 balls played, leading Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting first innings to an imposing 228-4 scoreline batting first. Shikhar Dhawan also contributed mightily, scoring an outstanding 71-ball 124 to assist Sunrisers Hyderabad reach such an immense target.
Warner was one of the main contributors to bringing cricket into disrepute when he was accused of using sandpaper on the ball during last year’s Cape Town scandal, yet seems to have put that behind him and is in fine form this season; hoping to score hundreds before retiring after 2024 World Cup.
Warner, after being banned from cricket following the ball-tampering scandal, returned to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in this year’s IPL tournament. As Australia won their 2021 T20 World Cup victory he finished as its leading run scorer – as well as captaining them three ODIs and nine T20Is before being caught up in ball-tampering controversy.
Warner will look to add to his ODI century tally when he takes to the field for Delhi Capitals against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday at Vizag’s ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. Warner already has an excellent track record against them having scored 52 and 49 runs in two previous matches for DC against them.
Kolkata and Hyderabad have met 28 times during the IPL, with Kolkata winning 19 times outright and Hyderabad just nine. But Hyderabad may take heart in knowing their opponent KKR has struggled at top-order batting this season – this should give them hope that they can turn things around against a resilient opponent like Kolkata KKR.
AB de Villiers
AB de Villiers is an outstanding limited-overs batsman, but what truly elevates him as an elite captain is his leadership skills. He led England to two major titles in white-ball cricket and has vast experience when it comes to carrying out plans on the big stage. No surprise then that Knight Riders snapped him up during the auction; already making an impactful statement with their new side!
Henrich Klaasen’s outstanding 63-ball innings against KKR gave SRH some much-needed momentum at the back end of their run chase. Klaasen displayed why he is one of the finest batsmen in world cricket; his strike rate of over 144 per 100 balls was remarkable while he hit six maximums alone – more than any of SRH’s top order combined!
However, he was eventually dismissed after scoring an outstanding 81 off 42 balls – and would love to reach 100 again and extend his tremendous form. Shikhar Dhawan made an excellent start, hitting 23 from 10 balls before being dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal for 25. Manish Pandey should look forward to making quick work of reaching fifty.
Sunrisers bowling was dismal in their loss against RCB, prompting them to make changes as they search for victory at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar may return from being rested against Rajasthan Royals as part of Rashid Khan, Siddarth Kaul and Shakib Al Hasan’s line-up of fast bowlers.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians have retained key players and signed exciting new talent during the auction to contend for another IPL crown, with several of their former stars back alongside some exciting new additions. Their passionate fan base and history of exciting comebacks make them hard to outdo in any match-up and their official motto of “Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo”, meaning “Perform, Fight, Win”, will hopefully help them defeat rival teams this season and claim back the trophy if they all bring their A game together as one team unit!
