PBKS vs DC
On Saturday, the Indian Premier League begins with a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at Chandigarh’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. Both sides hope for a successful start – Punjab Kings have often underachieved in past editions but hope for better this time around; Delhi Capitals had an unsuccessful 2023 campaign where they lost nine out of 15 games before finishing ninth overall in team standings.
Both teams are coming off impressive performances in their pre-match warm-up matches; the Kings defeated RCB while Capitals won all three against Mumbai Indians. It promises to be an exciting contest between world-class talent in each team – it should make for an entertaining game!
PBKS and DC have met seven times head-to-head since 2012, with six wins to one for PBKS at home and only one victory conceded for DC in total. At neutral sites and overseas stadiums however, things have changed with DC dominating both situations.
Shikhar Dhawan will lead PBKS this season, alongside Jonny Bairstow and Sam Curran in their top order batting lineup. Their batsman are supported by Nathan Ellis, Kagiso Rabada, and Arshdeep Singh amongst others in a formidable bowling attack that offers support.
PBKS win
After years of struggling to secure their debut match at this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL), Mohit Burman believes this victory marks a great beginning for his side – one they may end up making it through and ending their 10-year playoff drought this time around.
The Kings last appeared in the playoffs in 2014, when they fell short against Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. George Bailey led them to a top two finish that year and came within striking distance of winning IPL glory; since then though, they have failed to meet their potential.
This year, the Kings hired former Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting in hopes of ending their decade-long slump. Along with Ponting came Glenn Maxwell, David Miller and Chris Gayle as big-hitting players designed to boost their batting lineup but none could break free from their group stage slump.
Although the Kings lost some early wickets, their batsmen kept it together despite taking early hits. Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan both made half-centuries but could not help their side overtake the run rate. Sam Curran made an outstanding fifty before Khaleel removed him in the penultimate over. Harpreet Brar then hit two sixes to add pressure back onto the Capitals; unfortunately for them however a dropped catch by Livingstone cost them dearly while Khaleel got him in that final over; his clean hitting combined with ineffective bowling by Capitals bowlers pushed them over; Livingstone took full advantage of these shortcomings to seal victory!

The Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab or KXIP) are an Indian Premier League team owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta and Karan Paul. Established in 2008 but yet to win an IPL championship title; only made one playoff appearance when finishing runners-up to KKR in 2014. Home matches are typically played at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mohali; however they have also hosted games in Dharamsala and Indore.
PBKS’ batting-heavy side, led by Shikhar Dhawan and featuring Glenn Maxwell and David Miller as power hitters. Meanwhile, their bowling department features Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami for effective bowling performances.
Though they have had an inconsistent season so far, PBKS remain formidable contenders in Division 3. They currently sit seventh on the points table and can secure a top four finish with consistent performance.
In 2024, they took an unprecedented step and hired Ricky Ponting as both head coach and strategic consultant – with the veteran captain charged with turning around their fortunes and leading them towards winning their inaugural IPL trophy.
PBKS’ team for IPL 2025 features both experienced and exciting young talent, signing players such as Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell to add depth to their batting lineup, while keeping key bowlers Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. In addition, all-rounders such as James Hopes and Liam Livingstone were added as bench strength.
PBKS wickets
PBKS stand a good chance in winning this match due to their impressive batting line up and bowling unit which can limit run scoring. Furthermore, experienced campaigner Shikhar Dhawan will lead them all the way into the finals; having led Hyderabad in previous editions.
The Punjab Kings is an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise cricket team founded in 2008 and jointly owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, Wadia Group scion Ness Wadia, Dabur’s Mohit Burman and Karan Paul. Home matches for The Punjab Kings take place at PCA Stadium in Mohali with catchment areas that extend throughout Kashmir Jammu Himachal Pradesh Punjab; yet they have never managed to claim IPL glory but did finish runners-up in 2014.
They have several batsmen capable of scoring runs quickly in big innings, such as captain Shikhar Dhawan and Sam Curran. Furthermore, their bowling line-up features Khaleel Ahmed and Kuldeep Yadav for added support.
PBKS had difficulty maintaining consistency, yet since changing to Kings XI Punjab they have seen dramatic improvements in performance. Even with all their gains however, they still have not managed to reach the finals yet.
PBKS will focus on improving their finishing skills this season, which will be essential in their bid for victory in this T20 World Cup tournament. They have retained two key players Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh and added depth to their batting lineup. Furthermore, former India spinner Sunil Joshi serves as their spin bowling coach; previously coaching Jammu and Kashmir cricket teams before also working with Oman during 2016 T20 World Cup tournament.

Even after losing early wickets, PBKS batsmen barely broke a sweat chasing 163. Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw put together an impressive 64-run partnership that gave their side momentum before eventually reaching their target with seven balls still left to spare.
Sam Curran made an outstanding first innings performance for PBKS when promoted to open the innings for the first time, supported by Prabhsimran Singh who scored fifty. Unfortunately, Ishant’s injury was a setback.
PBKS’ batting side had become an area of contention in recent times; however, with the addition of Dhawan as their captain they have seen significant improvement. Dhawan is an experienced campaigner with excellent batting abilities demonstrated during past tournaments.
PBKS’ batting unit is well balanced with both youth and experience players learning from one another, and an outstanding bowling attack featuring pace bowlers as well as spinners that have helped limit Delhi Capitals runs scored against them. Unfortunately, however, their season has started off poorly for them so far; only winning one game out of two while losing the other two; hopefully in future matches their performance can improve!
