Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers of Bangalore (RCB) meet in an Eliminator that could determine which team advances to the Indian Premier League playoffs. Rajasthan Royals is known for its calculated approach, sagacious planning, and strategy – traits which characterise them perfectly as a team.
Jos Buttler’s breathtaking century overshadowed Virat Kohli’s record-extending 113 as Rajasthan defeated RCB by six wickets to qualify for Qualifier 2 while RCB dropped into eighth spot in the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rajasthan Royals match scorecard.
RCB: Faf du Plessis (c), Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli
Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli of RCB have taken to the crease to take on Rajasthan bowlers. Kasigo Rabada opened his spell for Rajasthan, and Virat Kohli responded immediately by striking Kasigo Rabada for a boundary as he hit past short third man.
AB De Villiers follows suit with an aggressive pull for four off the first ball of an over, helping RCB score 28/1 at the end of its inaugural over.
Kohli struck another four by smashing the third ball over mid wicket and into the stands as he reached 97 runs. Burger took on to bowl the fifth over. Kohli began by tapping one to cover for single, before trying a slog sweep on ball two and missing, before trying it again on ball three – this time successfully!
Kohli smashes a drive through covers for a single. On his fourth attempt at attacking leg stump, however, he fails to do so successfully and instead hits an attempt at hitting over long only for Nandre Burger to catch it and turn into another run out.
RR: Sanju Samson (wk), Jos Buttler, Sandeep Sharma
Rajasthan Royals (RR), despite possessing some of the world’s top players, have struggled to crack the top four of Indian Premier League (IPL). On Sunday at Sawai Mansingh Stadium they will look to prove their doubters wrong and compete against KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants at their matchup.
Jos Buttler showed his impressive form against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday by scoring an unbeaten unbeaten 104 off 60 balls with seven sixes and four fours in an innings that cemented his dominance of the match.
Sandeep Sharma also shone with the ball, as he collected five wickets in four overs while conceding only 18 runs. Sharma noted that Samson is an exceptional captain who allows all bowlers to express themselves freely.
Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer and Wanindu Hasaranga can all contribute to RR’s bowling unit with pace and skill, while Jofra Archer adds variation and is familiar with Buttler – though their batting depth has yet to develop enough to take full advantage.
RCB: Virat Kohli (c), Shimron Hetmyer
Shimron Hetmyer has made an impressive start to his international career. The left-hander first gained notice for Guyana Amazon Warriors by scoring a century against Jamaica Tallawahs during CPL 2018 for Guyana Amazon Warriors; He also proved adept at lower middle order cricket scoring two scores over 100 twice out of three innings played so far in ODI cricket matches he played.
Hetmyer was dropped from West Indies’ full-strength white-ball squad for last year’s tour to Australia due to an unusually poor run of scores, with just one half-century recorded out of 10 innings. Since then, Hetmyer has struggled for form but will be hoping that finding stability at home might bring about some form of respite in his batting performance.
Glenn Maxwell to KM Asif, no run, Caught Out! leg break, full length and on the stumps; Asif attempted an ambitious shot by going for a risky slog sweep towards long on and edged it onto Virat Kohli who easily pouched it for an easy dismissal – much to the applause and applauds of an appreciative crowd! A remarkable moment.
RR: Ajinkya Rahane (wk), Manoj Tiwary
As RR struggled to keep pace with the run rate, Tiwary provided his innings with stability by striking four fours and sixes within two overs to push their total past 160 runs.
Tiwary had an outstanding domestic season but wasn’t included on India’s squad in recent tournaments despite his strong domestic form. Mahendra Singh Dhoni preferred younger players like Washington Sundar over him for both ODIs in Zimbabwe and T20I in South Africa.
Tiwary will play an instrumental role in Rajputana RFC’s bid to reach the top four. Additionally, his contribution will play a pivotal role when they face Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier matchup.
Green entered in the 10th over and bowled aggressively, restricting Royals to just 11 runs from his three overs. He caught Jaiswal trying to scoop short ball, and helped run out Jurel via an incredible one-bounce throw from Kohli into deep midwickets. Green then picked off Samson after leaving his crease too early for Karn Sharma’s deliberate offside wide delivery; thus leaving RR’s top order dangerously exposed.
RCB: Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel is an accomplished fast bowler known for his slow variations and dipping yorkers, as well as probing line and length in death overs. Patel made his T20 international debut in 2021 but struggled to establish himself due to competition for spots from other young fast bowlers.
Patel is an integral member of Royal Challengers Bangalore and forms part of their pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj and AB de Villiers. Patel serves as an invaluable leader for their quest for domestic and international glory.
RCB boasts an exceptional mix of proven international players and exceptional domestic talent. Led by Director of Cricket Mike Hesson and Head Coach Sanjay Bangar, this club based out of Bangalore in Karnataka boasts home matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB and Hyderabad franchises (originally the Deccan Chargers and now Sunrisers Hyderabad) have long been bitter rivals, meeting 32 times in IPL matches between them – 15 won by Bangalore while 14 for Rajasthan. Both sides have seen some memorable matches over time.
RR: Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj, 30, is an independently trained fast bowler. Rather than attending an academy or seeking coaching guidance, he started off playing street cricket using tennis balls as his ball of choice. Born from auto-rickshaw driver parents, Siraj credits hard work and perseverance with helping him establish himself as one of India’s frontline bowlers for both Tests and ODIs.
Siraj was known for his quick bouncers and uncomfortable lengths from the moment of his Ranji Trophy debut in 2015. His ability to generate pace and bounce led to him earning selection in Hyderabad’s senior zonal side.
Over time, he earned his first international call-up during India’s tour of Australia in 2020. His performance during that four-match series earned him selection for the 2023 ODI World Cup squad.
Hyderabad-born speedster Yuvraj Singh has been an integral part of RCB’s revival this season. With 19 wickets across league stages and an elevation from Grade B contract to Grade A contract in accordance with BCCI salary structure reforms, his all-round performances have helped bring success for RCB this season.
RCB: Reece Topley
Failure of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s senior overseas batters has sent shockwaves through the entire team, particularly their bowlers. Their bowling unit has struggled to pick up early wickets while conceding too many runs during Power Play overs.
Topley is an exciting left-arm seamer with a potency yorker but has been plagued with injuries over recent seasons, jeopardising his potential role in England’s white ball plans and cutting short his career prematurely due to fitness concerns.
As he battles through a stress fracture in his back, he has been forced to miss both Pakistan Super League and Indian Premier League tournaments this month. However, he remains part of England’s World Cup 2023 team roster.
His presence for RCB will provide them with a tremendous boost as they look to kick-start their season against Lucknow Super Giants. After losing four consecutive matches at the start of their campaign, Faf du Plessis-led side have shown promising signs of improvement recently and may now have the chance to move up the table.
