This was an engaging clash between two strong sides who put on an impressive show in both batting and bowling performances during different phases of the match.

Renuka Singh Thakur
Renuka Singh Thakur led India Women to an emphatic victory against Bangladesh Women in their opening one-day international at Dambulla International Stadium, restricting them to only 80-8 in 20 overs with her three wicket haul. Renuka stuck with her plan, bowling four consecutive overs without offering freebies; Renuka struck early by dismissing Dilara Akter who’s slog sweep could not clear Uma Chetry at deep midwicket; she again struck with her final ball as Ishma Tanjim ran leg before wicket and Radha Yadav made sure of victory with her third over.
Renuka grabbed her third wicket in her fourth over, when she bowled Murshida Khatun off an off-length delivery that fell slightly short of length. Renuka continued her economical bowling style ensuring Bangladesh never gained any momentum from playing against her.
Indian’s run chase began off well, with Smriti Mandhana scoring an outstanding 91 off 102 balls to anchor their innings with both aggression and elegance, striking 13 boundaries en route. Her captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised Mandhana and their improved fielding for this performance.
Women in Blue will have an equally busy schedule this season, including an away tour to Australia as well as home matches against Bangladesh and West Indies. While they have little free time between matches to focus on improving areas that have proven challenging in their games in previous encounters, the Indian squad plans on using any spare moments for developing specific areas that have caused issues for them in past outings. They will also take part in the 2024 Women’s Premier League tournament.
Deepti Sharma
Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are often the first names that come to mind when discussing India Women’s national cricket team; but one player that often goes unnoticed is Deepti Sharma who provides balance for Women in Blue by filling gaps at key moments during matches. Recently she achieved her career-best rating on ICC Women’s ODI Bowling Rankings as recognition for her performances both home and abroad.
India’s impressive run chase against Bangladesh was led by Mandhana and Dayalan Hemalatha in the second T20I. Though India started off slowly due to a poor start, both players proved vital when rain intervened and play was stopped for 5.2 overs, reaching 47/1 with 95 runs to chase down.
India were able to reach their target with ease, losing only two wickets along the way. Deepti provided the initial breakthrough, trapping Murshida Akter LBW. Radha Yadav took another wicket quickly after with Rubya Haider being run out after just her second ball was bowled!
India will go up 2-0 in their five-match T20I series after Thursday’s third T20I, and India vice-captain Deepti believes her team are taking things game by game: “I think we are playing well as a unit and are confident about every situation, condition, and back ourselves. There isn’t any big or small team; it all comes down to your approach in every situation.”
Radha Yadav
India’s bowlers outshone Bangladeshi batters to secure a 19-run victory using the Duckworth-Lewis method. All Indian bowlers had at least one wicket return while Radha Yadav made headlines by taking three crucial scalps that yielded 19 runs.
Left-arm spinner, Deepti Sharma has been an essential player in India’s squad and her recent performance proves this point. Her impressive bowling shows just how far she’s come as an all-round player and overall performer.
Radha was not at her best with the new ball in the opening game; however, in the second match she made up for it by dismantling Bangladesh’s top order batting order with devastating accuracy in just two overs of bowling! She dismissed Dilara Akter, Murshida Khatun and Ishma Tanjim before picking up key wickets like Nigar Sultana and Rubya Haider in nine overs!
She demonstrated her pacey deliveries with sharp fielding skills, showcasing great maturity in her role as the final bowler in India’s run chase despite losing Shafali Verma early. Thanks to Dayalan Hemalatha and Yastika Bhatia who provided momentum, India eventually reached 145/7 in 20 overs with her pacey deliveries helping build momentum.
Tanuja Kanwar
The Indian Women’s National Cricket Team, commonly referred to as “Women in Blue”, represents India in international women’s cricket competition. Administered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), they are full members of the International Cricket Council with Women’s Test cricket status as well as WODI and WT20I statuses.
Harmanpreet Kaur leads India’s team as captain after she successfully competed in the Asian Women’s T20 Cup campaign, and are now gearing up to compete at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2024, which will take place from October 3-20 in United Arab Emirates.
Kaur and Mandhana will be crucial to India’s success at this tournament, but other players such as Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, and Richa Ghosh must step up as well.
Kanwar’s performance against Ireland in the first One Day International was an early indicator of what she can deliver at the World Cup. She scored 23 runs off 11 balls – including back-to-back sixes off leg spinner Afy Fletcher! – showing just why her presence should not be discounted from team India’s roster for success at this tournament.
Kanwar was one of the stand-out bowlers on the pitch and helped India limit Ireland to a modest total. She took three wickets during the match and put India in an ideal position to secure victory; unfortunately she wasn’t successful in picking up one in the final over, but will hope for better fortune against Sri Lanka next time out – winning that match would put India ahead in Group A with Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka all vying for position to advance further in this tournament. Currently India sit third behind Australia and Pakistan but ahead of arch rival Pakistan while holding third position behind defending champion Australia Australia; Australia currently sits first while arch rival Pakistan sits third along with Australia, arch rival Pakistan Pakistan sits fourth; behind only Australia with Australia, arch rival Pakistan Pakistan, arch rival Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are in Group A with Australia ahead of arch rival Pakistan and Sri Lanka at present (Group A being third in Group A alongside defending champion Australia, arch rival Pakistan as potential threats), along with Sri Lanka sitting third; currently sit third place behind only Australia, arch-rival Pakistan and Sri Lanka who currently sit 3rd position alongside both teams against arch-rival Pakistan as they attempt to progress further with arch rival Pakistan while Sri Lanka are sitting third place along with Sri Lanka sitting third place and all three playing next against Sri Lanka and arch-rival Pakistan and Sri Lanka being active players). Sri Lanka currently sitting 3rd position 4 against Sri Lanka being active competitors, both being active competitors Pakistan as well as potential opponents Pakistan plus arch-rival Pakistan plus Sri Lanka then.
Smriti Mandhana
Smriti Mandhana is one of India’s most celebrated female cricketers. At just 13, she made her first team debut in a Twenty20 match and now leads India in terms of scoring this format. Mandhana has become known for her grace, power and consistency on the bat; adaptability as she tackles different game phases; fan favoritism as one of the premier female batsmen globally.
Mandhana recently displayed her immense talent during an impressive fifty in only 27 balls during a match against Bangladesh and is currently second on the ICC Women’s T20I rankings.
Mandhana was instrumental in India’s win against Bangladesh. She helped her side get off to an effective start, adding runs throughout her innings before playing an instrumental role in India’s stunning 10-wicket triumph over their foe.
Indian team received an early scare when Dilhara Akter and Murhsida Khatun both scored fifties within powerplay overs, creating an early scare for India’s bowlers. Fielding was poor; Harmanpreet Kaur missed an excellent diving catch at square leg that could have removed Dilhara Akter.
India soon rallied back, reaching a comfortable total of 145/7 in 20 overs thanks to Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia’s 43-run second wicket partnership, helping India avoid collapse. They then managed to limit Bangladesh to 101/8 with Renuka Singh taking three wickets during her four-over spell – she was later honored with Player of the Match award for her performance.
