After defeating Nepal with ease, India turned their focus to Oman in their second game of the tournament. Their batsmen once again excelled with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both scoring quick half-centuries to easily chase down Oman’s target of 230 runs to claim another win.

Nepal and Papua New Guinea met in Dubai for an ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 event. Nepal were led by captain Aasif Sheikh with spinner Karan KC making his ODI debut.
Nepal started off strongly and led the first ten overs thanks to Bhim Sharki’s extraordinary batting, scoring an outstanding fifty off 19 balls and becoming the youngest ever player to achieve this milestone. But their momentum quickly dissipated during slog overs as Nepalese bowlers struggled to contain India’s aggressive powerplay batting.
Though Nepal lost to India, they can take comfort from their performance against one of its Full Members for their first match against India – showing they can compete on an international stage and show signs of improvement going forward. They look forward to improving upon what has already been made progress with future matches against Full Members like Russia.
Group B
India prevailed easily over Nepal in the opening quarter-final of the 2023 Asian Games, defeating them easily with just three wickets needed to take out Nepalese top order of Kushal Bhurtel, Sundeep Jora, and Dipendra Singh Airee failing to hit big boundaries and being bowled out for just 203 runs in their innings. India’s Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill then added their signature by scoring several quickfire SIXES apiece.
Indu Barma, captain of Nepal national cricket team, stated that her side may have not performed at its best today but that this game provided valuable learning experiences against higher-ranked sides. Barma stated that they will work hard on bowling to prepare themselves for future matches.
Hardik Pandya started off strong against Nepal by bowling an outstanding delivery to Sompal Kami of Nepal’s middle stump, cleanly hitting it for a WICKET at long on. Sompal Kami could not catch this ball and so it fell back out onto long on for a WICKET.
Radha used her leg spinners to control run rate while weakening Nepal’s batting strength and send Nepal’s Rubina Chhetri back for a duck in her next over.
Indian batsmen got off to an excellent start and managed to post an impressive total on a two-paced pitch, thanks to Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s powerful start in which they hit several sixes during their powerplay innings and made it easy for India to reach their target total.

India women proved they are serious contenders to retain their 2024 Women Asia Cup crown after an emphatic win against Nepal in 2024 Women Asia Cup. Even without regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur and other key batsmen, India were too good for Nepalis who made costly errors during their innings. Arundhati Reddy and Radha Yadav both grabbed early wickets to prevent any fightback from the Nepalis while spinners kept taking wickets at regular intervals to keep run rate under control for India side.

Nepal showed promise despite losing both matches at this tournament and could make inroads into ODI cricket soon enough if they work harder at developing their game.
Nepal made a competitive score against Sri Lanka in the opening match of this tournament with 50 overs to score 230 runs in 50 overs, thanks to Kushal Bhurtel’s fluid strokeplay in the powerplay and some muscle from Sompal Kami during their slog overs – though unfortunately not enough to meet their target of 203 runs.
Nepal’s lower order batting wasn’t much help in backing up their openers; Sita Magar, Rubina Chhetry and Bindu Rawal all managed to reach double figures but couldn’t remain on the crease for long. Meanwhile Nepali bowlers did well to limit Sri Lankan batters to just a few runs per over.
India was able to easily achieve their target in just over 21 overs due to an exceptional performance from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, both batsmen hit SIXES to give India an excellent start. Additionally, Indian bowlers did an outstanding job at controlling run rate and mitigating Nepal batsman damage on the back foot.
