The Australians
Australia are on the cusp of winning their third successive Test against India after posting an impressive total in their first innings. Australia have been in control since day one, with captain Pat Cummins taking six wickets and all-rounder Steven Smith scoring an unbeaten century upon returning from international cricket after nearly one year’s absence.
India have performed well at times during this series but overall have struggled to maintain a high score. Their lack of consistency is something which has hindered them and they need to work on improving their batting if they hope to take further victories.
India battled back after losing three batsmen early, to amass 242 runs and take the game into its final day. Their bowlers played an excellent game and held back Australian batsman against defeat for most of the innings but there was one momentary concern they may succumb but Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant kept India in contention by keeping their nerve to remain competitive.
Jaiswal scores an unbeaten 71 off just 49 deliveries before adding another 79 runs with Pant during the second session to keep Australia at bay and India’s slim chances of an uprising alive. This surely gives India some confidence going into tomorrow’s last day and they could wrap up this series victory!
Shubman Gill becomes the next batsman to be dismissed when his shot goes straight to Marsh at fourth slip, bowled by Starc who pitched up and moved the ball around.
Starc was all smiles in the dressing room after this thrilling game and feels grateful to have played his part in history. He comments on how all players were in a good space to secure this win and adds that playing on such a difficult pitch makes doing better hard to achieve.
The Indians
At stake was the Border-Gavaskar trophy and both sides displayed impressive aggression during the fourth and final Test in Brisbane. Australia took an early advantage after Travis Head and Steve Smith both hit centuries, but India made a comeback and forced it into extra innings on day five in Brisbane.
Australia batted first in the final innings but were limited by wet outfield conditions to 445 runs due to Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood being rested.
India had made an interesting change, replacing injured Harshit Rana with Ravindra Jadeja who has proven his worth with excellent partnerships including those formed with Shubman Gill who scored his maiden half-century and helped India maintain their momentum throughout this series.
The pitch was still green but far from dead track. Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney managed to survive an early onslaught from Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep of India – three bowlers known for their fast bowling attack.
Australia experienced an early setback when opener Sam Konstas was dismissed for a duck off Prasidh Krishna and soon after Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith both fell to short deliveries from Washington Sundar. However, an impressive partnership between Head and debutant Beau Webster helped steer them towards their target score.
Australia lost wickets regularly while struggling to keep pace with the run rate, but managed to reduce it through an unbeaten partnership of 158 between themselves thanks to Head’s amazing hundred which came just after three balls!
Rohit Sharma continued his brilliant form with the bat as he scored an unbeaten 92 off 41 balls, supported by Rishabh Pant’s magnificent 75 off 35 and Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 62 off 28 to lead India to an historic win in this fifth and final Test match of their series.
The Final Score
Indian national cricket team struggled against Australian counterparts in an exciting Test match at Brisbane. Rohit Sharma led side was threatened by follow-on after crossing 246 runs in their first innings; however, thanks to some strong partnerships they managed to stave it off with help of strong partnerships. Unfortunately Indian bowlers struggled on day five and lost control over game.
India openers Jaiswal and Rahul have struggled against an excellent bowling unit and need to score big runs quickly in order to keep alive any hopes of winning this series.
Starc continues his fine work with the ball, keeping Indian batsmen on edge by creating short deliveries on pads to Jaiswal which cause an edge which just misses the slip cordon, but Indian captain does not review this decision.
Kohli and Rahul must use every opportunity they have left to avoid follow-on threats in their final overs of play and make every one count. They only have a handful of overs left before the match comes to an end; make them count!
Australia starts their final over by conceding two singles to Indian batters before getting close enough to Kohli with a full delivery that goes wide of his off stump – but the umpire wasn’t convinced and gave out an LBW ruling!
Rohit Sharma laments their loss with disappointment. They could have made up ground, but the last wicket partnership cost them dearly and prevented batting to completion. Rohit laments their inability to bat until the very end and hopes it may change for future matches.
India are still chasing 341 to win the match and currently stand on 216/4 after losing two wickets during the second session. If they want to avoid a whitewash in this four-match series, India will need an incredible performance on the final day to stop an Australian whitewash of them all! Australia cricket team includes Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne Mitchell Marsh Alex Carey (WK), Pat Cummins Matt Starc Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland among its ranks.
Final Scorecard
Australia Men’s National Cricket Team is an Australian professional cricket squad representing its nation internationally. Together with England, it is one of the oldest teams ever seen playing Test matches since 1947; having also taken on India as rivals since ODIs began being held. They are unmatched when it comes to One Day Internationals having won six World Cup titles; whilst their rivalry with India offers high-pressure moments and match-winning performances with each series providing unique drama.
Australia’s dominance of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has cemented itself into legend. Now a new generation of stars are emerging to add their names to this storied rivalry’s rich history. Each series offers all of the thrills and spills associated with both test matches and Twenty20 or ODI matches for fans to witness an electrifying spectacle!
India mounted an admirable fightback on Moving Day, but eventually fell prey to Australia’s formidable bowling attack. Nathan Lyon’s short delivery from outside off struck Mohammed Siraj’s pads for 79 and was caught at slip. Australia then easily wrapped up their innings to take 2-0 lead in the match.
Indian cricket remains confident despite losing, believing they can restore their form in the final match of this series in Hyderabad. Looking backwards won’t help them when facing off against Australia again on November 10.
India have enjoyed tremendous success under Kohli and Shastri in recent times, reaching the knockout stages at their inaugural ICC World Cup appearance and winning four Asia Cup championships. Unfortunately, their underwhelming showing in that tournament raised doubts about his leadership ability and big tournament wins; therefore this series’ final match represents an invaluable test of whether they can once more challenge world cricket’s elite sides.
