CSK suffered their third loss of the season as LSG staged an extraordinary run-chase at Chepauk. All credit must go to Ruturaj Gaikwad for leading his side to glory.
CSK vs LSG
CSK and LSG have each shown impressive performances during their short encounters against one another, boasting strong cores of Indian players that can compete with top teams in the league. CSK are led by MS Dhoni while KL Rahul leads LSG as it attempts to make waves.
The match will take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and both teams are hoping to continue their impressive runs of form. Reigning champions have won three out of their five matches so far this season while beginning a five-match home stretch; thus maintaining momentum ahead of a crucial phase of competition.
KL Rahul won the toss and decided to field first after anticipating dew later in the evening; his decision paid off when CSK were limited to just 177 runs in 20 overs.
In reply, Mooen Ali (30 off 20) and MS Dhoni struck some timely sixes to lead their side to an impressive total. Ali and Dhoni added 57 runs in 10 overs towards ensuring they would make it into the quarterfinals.
LSG began strongly, with Rahul and Quinton De Kock making classy fifties to set them up nicely for victory. Unfortunately for LSG however, Ravindra Jadeja bowled an outstanding spell which claimed four wickets within 10 overs to leave them struggling against Ravindra Jadeja’s left-arm spin bowling attack and leave their opponents reeling from an excellent bowling performance from Ravindra Jadeja – leaving LSG reeling under pressure and struggling.
After that, the game exploded with life thanks to brilliant performances from Mooen Ali and MS Dhoni who both put on impressive batting displays to lead their respective teams to an eight-wicket victory – making for one of the greatest IPL matches ever seen and remembered by both cricket fans and cricket professionals alike.
CSK 177 for 6 in 20 overs
KL Rahul hit nine fours and three sixes during an 82-ball innings as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets at Ekana Stadium on Friday. Rahul shared an opening wicket partnership of 134 runs with Quinton de Kock that helped their side overcome CSK’s total of 177 in 20 overs, as Rahul became the first Indian ever to make eight fifty plus scores this season.
CSK struggled to post a subpar total and appeared headed towards another loss after they slumped to 68/3 in the 11th over, before Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 57-ball knock rescued them and helped CSK post a respectable total of 176/6. Ajinkya Rahane (36b, 24b, 5×4, 2×6) and Moeen Ali (30b, 20b) also played their part for CSK.
Mohsin Khan strikes early after LSG won the toss and elected to field, casting Rachin Ravindra out for an unlikely golden duck as soon as they elected to bowl first over. Soon thereafter Rahane was also dismissed when caught at short midwicket off Yash Thakur.
LSG were unable to capitalize on their early advantage due to Shivam Dube being caught at cover point off Matt Henry’s bowling, while Sameer Rizvi failed to make an impression in his debut being dismissed for one run by Moeen Ali.
Ajinkya Rahane takes over for Gaikwad at the crease and quickly sets things in motion by hitting Henry for a maximum off one of his short balls over midwicket for maximum. A couple more singles were picked up over two deliveries before Moeen Ali joined Rahane at the crease.
Rahane smashes Henry’s full length delivery over midwicket for four to extend the over’s run and take three boundaries out of six balls in this IPL innings! That makes six fours this year!
Thakur fails to secure another wicket but does allow 13 runs off his next over as Rahane and Jadeja continue their run-scoring spree.
Once we take a quick glance at the odds, we can see that LSG are slight favorites to win this match at 1.70, making them clear favourites to advance to the semifinals. After winning their last two matches and keeping pace with Delhi Capitals’ success so far this season, they should remain within striking distance of top four finishing. CSK however are in danger of falling back behind Delhi Capitals; therefore they need to improve significantly if they want to avoid falling further behind and remain competitive against Delhi. Luckily they have power-hitters within their ranks to keep them in pursuit of top four qualification; make this clash an absolute thriller – make sure you stay tuned for updates.
LSG 176 for 6 in 19 overs
KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock produced an incredible display to power LSG to 176 for six against KKR in an IPL match at Ekana Stadium on Friday. After an initially slow start, Rahul and de Kock shared an exceptional 67-ball stand that laid down an excellent platform for their chase; supported by Nicholas Pooran’s 30-ball 58 who helped save LSG from an alarming position of 73 for five in just 10 overs.
De Kock begins his innings by striking the first delivery towards midwicket with a slog, hitting it into midwicket to establish his innings. On his next delivery he hit one to deep square leg for a single and kept scoring throughout. When that over ended with no runs being added onto their total De Kock added an additional nine runs with this move.
Moeen Ali enters the fray, hoping to break De Kock and Rahul’s partnership. However, their natural game continues: De Kock flicks the first ball through midwicket for one run while Rahul powers over long-off for two. They continue this pattern of play before rotating strike rotation to add two runs more to their score before finishing the over with a dot ball.
Rahul then hit Pathirana’s third delivery through midwicket for four, starting a fifty-two run partnership with Pooran at the other end. Rahul and Pooran added three runs as their run rate continued to increase rapidly.
Pooran hit a full toss from Deshpande for a boundary, assuring that they will reach their target easily. A few overs later, Deshpande sent out another bouncer which De Kock attempted to hook, only managing a single run off it.
CSK are in danger of losing momentum, but thanks to an exuberant six from Mooen Ali they manage to recover it and seize control of the match once more. Now all they need are seven more wickets over the final three overs in order to seal their first win of 2019. An IPL win would also propel them into the top four on the league table, rising from sixth position and closing in on Mumbai Indians by just two points. Prior to kick off, the home side had won the toss and elected to bowl. Starting off their innings with some discipline, keeping their run rate under five per over for the first ten overs. But in the middle overs, they started giving away over 15 runs each in each of the first five overs – leading them downhill until Rohit Sharma reached his half century off just 27 balls; at which point, 16-2 became 16-5; eventually finishing powerplay on 16-5 having conceded 63 in total.
