SRH’s batsmen were powerless against CSK’s brilliant use of cutters on a slow Chepauk pitch, with even talented batters like Klaasen finding it hard to hit big boundaries on such an inhospitable surface.
Pat Cummins won the toss and elected for a conservative approach on a slow Chepauk track that has proven itself a formidable test of his team’s batting lineup in previous outings. For fans keeping track of matches, the Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match scorecard will be a key reference to understand how the teams are adapting to these challenging conditions.
Kuldeep Yadav – 3/22
Kuldeep Yadav stands out in T20I cricket as an uncommon left-arm wrist spinner, known for his deadly googly and various variations that make him difficult for batsmen to pick out. A native of Uttar Pradesh, Yadav became the fastest Indian to capture five wickets at once during T20I tournaments.
He burst onto the scene at the 2014 Under-19 World Cup in UAE, taking 14 wickets across six matches and becoming India’s highest wicket-taker for that tournament. Soon thereafter he found opportunities in India’s domestic setup and quickly established himself as an integral member of their team.
Kuldeep showed his potential against RCB as his turn and variation proved too much for their top order to handle. Now at MA Chidambaram Stadium against an unpredictable CSK side, he hopes to maintain his good form while giving spinners some assistance against an unpredictable pitch that might produce some dew later but should have minimal effect.
Ajinkya Rahane – 3/23
Rahane stepped in as Mumbai captain following the sudden and tragic passing of their coach in a car accident earlier this year, leading them to their inaugural win of the season against Andhra in Ranji Trophy play.
Rahane will lead India A in their two-match Test series against New Zealand starting this month, an opportunity for them to rediscover form and rebuild themselves over longer formats.
SRH skipper Pandey takes to the field against Bhuvneshwar Kumar and begins well, upper cutting a bouncer towards square leg for four. On his next ball he attempted to go over long on but Tushar Deshpande caught it easily before hitting a short ball to cover for four more runs – six from one over from Bhuvneshwar, as well as four off three balls in three balls in total; still trailing by 78 runs overall.
Mohammad Nabi – 3/26
Nabi made an impactful impact with his right-arm off spinner bowl, taking Kusal Mendis’ key wicket. Additionally, Nabi proved economical and bowled 29 dot balls – more than any other Afghan bowler!
Nabi also played an instrumental role with the bat, contributing to an unprecedented 242-run partnership with Azmatullah Omarzai that became the second-highest sixth-wicket stand ever seen in an ODI match. Pathum Nissanka made history when he scored an extraordinary double century to help Sri Lanka counter a determined Afghanistan attack.
Visitors, however, ran into trouble in the middle overs as Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja collected two wickets each to give hosts more control.
Shahbaz Khan – 3/27
Shahbaz Khan is an esteemed actor working in Hindi television, most notably LandLady, Raaz – Ek Rahasya and Mystery Villa. Additionally he has featured in several Bollywood films such as Sairat and Hero.
CSK’s batsmen struggled in the Powerplay and soon fell to 134/6 after Travis Head fell for a golden duck. Anmolpreet Singh attempted to steady things but was quickly bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Natarajan into the attack. Length ball on the pads and Ruturaj Gaikwad hits it towards fine leg for four. Gaikwad appears in some discomfort but will continue his innings regardless.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 3/28
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is an outstanding right-arm fast bowler who is an integral member of India’s Test squad. With his ability to swing both ways and specialise in death overs, he makes for formidable death bowling performances with slower balls, reverse swing and yorkers.
Bhuvi has been an outstanding performer for CSK this season and will look to extend that success when facing SRH in Chennai at MA Chidambaram Stadium. With plenty of wickets already to his credit there, he should aim to add to them.
Mustafizur Rahman to Shahbaz Ahmed: Four, off a short ball on the pads that hangs in his crease and uppercuts it for four. Rahman then tried to hit over long on but missed completely and was caught by Moeen Ali in deep for no run.
Tushar Deshpande – 3/29
Tushar Deshpande was selected by CSK for a base price of 20 lakhs in the IPL 2022 mega auction, having impressed at both Mumbai domestic cricket and when given opportunities by CSK. A stocky fast bowler from Mumbai, Tushar Deshpande has shown good form for India at domestic levels as well as when given opportunities by CSK.
Pat Cummins of Sunrisers Hyderabad said their goal was to inject some momentum into the game and give themselves an opportunity of winning it. He thought Chepauk would provide them with an advantage to bat on, but that hasn’t come to pass. Cummins noted they will need to improve in both Powerplay and middle overs batting; nevertheless he was satisfied with overall effort of his team and congratulated Ruturaj Gaikwad for scoring an exceptional hundred as player of the match; Daryl Mitchell and Dube also chipped in while T Natarajan and Jaydev Unadkat also contributed with wickets from Hyderabad bowlers as part of Hyderabad team effort.
Mustafizur Rahman – 3/30
Mustafizur Rahman was known for taking risks when bowling fast bowlers. Hailing from an obscure village near Satkhira in Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman and his family took his talent seriously – his elder brother Mokhlesur would transport him daily from home to Satkhira town for cricket practice every winter day – an extra 40 kilometers away!
Last year, 20-year-old Bangladeshi batsman Shakib Al Hasan was selected for inclusion in the ICC ODI Team of the Year by Cricket Australia – becoming only the second Bangladeshi player since Dale Steyn in 2004 to make such a list.
Rahman made an early impactful mark with his deceptive off cutter that took Rohit’s inside edge and crashed into the stumps, before dismissing Raina and Jadeja with timely deliveries as CSK pulled ahead. Furthermore, his clever short deliveries proved troublesome to batsmen during CSK innings.
Jaydev Unadkat – 3/33
Jaydev Unadkat is an accomplished right-handed batsman and left-arm fast-medium bowler who has represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Rising Pune Supergiants, India A, Saurashtra and Saurashtra amongst other teams. During domestic cricket auctions he proved popular, leading up to being signed for Rajasthan Royals team as one of their star performers.
Pat Cummins of Sydney RoughHawks stated they intended on bowling first as the optimal strategy in this game, however the batsmen struggled in the initial innings.
At last! Shardul Thakur appears on the verge of taking his first wicket of the match! Mitchell hits an upper cut fuller ball straight to deep midwicket for three runs off an over, prompting SRH to attempt review but confirmed by umpire as wicket-taking delivery by umpire – three runs scored off it altogether. Shardul Thakur then bowled another over, beating Klaasen on his first delivery while Samad hit towards cover but fell just short of fielder for two single single runs off his over. Three single runs scored off this over by Samad off two singles off it!
Moeen Ali – 3/34
Moeen Ali found his groove again after an inauspicious 2015 World Cup. Batting at No 7, he became integral in England’s revolution – scoring several centuries and offering spin support to Adil Rashid.
At Lord’s, he bedeviled India’s batters with precision spin bowling that earned 19 wickets – the fourth-highest haul for any English spinner ever in Test history. Southampton and Old Trafford saw him make further advances while breaking Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane apart, to seal a series win.
Birmingham-born all-rounder Mitchell still has some way to go before becoming one of the very best international cricket players, but he is certainly heading down that road. Mitchell was instrumental in leading his team-mates’ excellent start to their season; now it is up to him to continue that success against an aggressive SRH side. Mitchell delivers an uppercut which sees it sail over backward square leg for four.
