Will Jacks was the star of the show with his unbeaten hundred off 41 balls – fifth fastest ever century scored in IPL history!
The pitch was slow and slightly difficult for batting, yet batsmen did well during the Powerplay period. 200 appeared likely on this track. Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match scorecard reflected the close competition between the two teams.
RCB: 92 runs
Narendra Modi Stadium has seen two intense encounters between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), adding extra spice to tonight’s high-pressure Eliminator match. Both teams have won one game each in previous matches; for RCB to remain in top three they must win this Eliminator fixture and finish top three themselves.
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers kept RCB’s run-rate up with some powerful hitting, contributing to their team scoring 248 runs – an unprecedented total in IPL history. Virat’s 229-run partnership propelled their total even higher.
Kohli played with devastating power, smashing some massive sixes and fours to help his side post an impressive total. Other batsmen provided vital support, particularly Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green who scored key hits to assist Kohli.
RCB’s bowlers did an outstanding job limiting Gujarat’s run-scoring. Swapnil Singh, Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj and Lockie Ferguson each picked up two wickets as they prevented Gujarat batsmen from making an impressionful statement on an otherwise bat-friendly pitch.
With three consecutive wins, RCB have climbed up the points table into seventh position. Their chances of reaching the playoffs may still exist but look slimmer by the day.
Faf du Plessis was pleased with how his team performed on an unforgiving pitch, noting they played aggressive cricket over recent games and deservedly won their match. Additionally, he complimented bowlers on their outstanding efforts.
Royal Challengers Bangalore was established by United Spirits and began playing Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches in Bengaluru, Karnataka in 2008 as an IPL franchise cricket team. Home matches take place at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with strong supporter loyalty dubbed “Bold Army”. Royal Challengers has placed second three times and reached play-offs six other times.
United Spirits established this team, making them one of the oldest and most successful teams in IPL history. After winning three IPL titles over its tenure, Royal Challengers Bangalore are arguably one of the most beloved teams around with an ardent fan base known as ‘Bold Army’ that spans across India and around the globe – including Bollywood celebrities. Additionally, their Facebook fan base numbers over one million and they enjoy an active local cricketing scene that gives RCB its unique edge in IPL competitions.
GT: 107 runs
The Titans have shown impressive resilience as they chase down an enormous target. After being battered in the Powerplay, Joshua Little came roaring back with some outstanding bowling to get rid of Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell quickly. Noor Ahmad proved invaluable when dismissing Will Jacks to keep the game going before being replaced by Rashid Khan who conceded only one boundary over 16 runs scored per over.
However, they were dealt a blow when their captain, Shubman Gill had to go through an appeal against an LBW decision and lost it; but he made up for his loss with an impressive hundred off 51 balls which included seven fours and five sixes to help give his side a competitive total.
Sai Sudarshan then took control and continued his impressive form, helping the Titans close in on 200 before eventually being caught at deep midwicket by Ajinkya Rahane at deep midwicket – this could prove costly as they need big hits in their last few overs to secure victory.
An unfortunate fielding error by Axar Patel allows him to steal one run from deep midwicket – but Rahul Tewatia soon runs him out before it can be used effectively.
But the Titans are far from out, as David Miller and Shahrukh Khan come back into play and push up their asking rate in order to maintain momentum with them.
Kuldeep Sen begins off strongly, giving away only four runs during his over. But that will only increase their asking rate for visitors.
Deepak Chahar takes the wicket of Shubman Gill after being overwhelmed by Deepak Chahar’s pace, going for review against an LBW decision and losing. Deepak will no doubt be disappointed at this result, having played such an integral part for Titans during this over. As it came to an end it was very tight between both teams with no clear winner emerging. CSK remain fourth while GT move up one spot to seventh, after winning their inaugural match of the season for just the second time ever and giving themselves an excellent chance at qualifying for playoffs. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore tasted defeat for the first time all season at home; now with three games left they must win all of them if they wish to reach final; up next will be against Mumbai Indians at home.
Final score
At M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face Gujarat Titans (GT). Both teams boast strong head-to-head IPL records; with RCB looking to maintain its winning momentum after defeating GT in Ahmedabad last week; GT, however, may look to avenge their loss while drawing confidence from having previously won at this venue.
RCB have won three out of four matches against Titans so far and hope to extend that dominance by defeating them again this time around. Will Jacks will lead their batting unit, hoping he can lead them all the way towards another win against bottom-placed sides like them.
Faf du Plessis of RCB won the toss and elected to bowl first after considering pitch conditions and past results at their stadium. Though initially undecided, after carefully considering these elements he ultimately made up his mind to bowl first.
His bowling strategy proved correct as the hosts only managed one boundary in the opening powerplay and quickly lost three wickets; Sai Sudharsan, David Miller, and Shahrukh Khan succumbing to Mohammed Siraj, Mohit Sharma, and Noor Ahmad respectively.
Gujarat Titans showed remarkable grit in coming back from early wicket losses and scoring 107 runs during their innings, led by some brilliant individual performances by Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell and Noor Ahmad – Noor Ahmad even dismissed Joshua Little for an incredible 67-ball 84 score!
Home team’s run total was higher than usual but still had enough to put on an impressive performance and finish top of the table. They would go on to secure five consecutive victories before meeting Mumbai Indians next. Other matches of the day will see Delhi Capitals battle Kolkata Knight Riders while Chennai Super Kings play against Hyderabad Sunrisers both eager for wins to keep playoff hopes alive.
