The 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will boast an unprecedented 20 teams. Host nations West Indies and USA will join top eight sides from previous tournaments and eight regional qualifier qualifiers as participants in this record-setting competition.
India defeated Bangladesh by 60 runs in their final warm-up match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, with Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube leading their way for victory. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup warm-up matches have provided a platform for teams to fine-tune their strategies before the main tournament.
India vs. Bangladesh
The 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will mark its fourth edition and take place every two years. Co-hosted by West Indies and United States, matches are set to take place across Dallas, New York, Florida and Trinidad & Tobago with this being the inaugural major cricket tournament hosted in United States since 1976.
India and Bangladesh will play the opening match of their warm-up series on Saturday, and it will serve as their only chance to prepare for the main event. As these warm-up matches won’t count as official T20 Internationals, both teams can use all 15 players from their roster.
The match will take place at Texas’ Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium and both sides boast some highly talented squads to choose from. India can choose among Abhishek Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy, and Rinku Singh while Bangladesh have an intriguing blend of experienced players like Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmadullah as well as returning all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz who all should make an impressionful display in T20 cricket.
Both teams will have much to prove in their warm-up games, hoping to set themselves up for success during this tournament. India are expected to emerge victorious, though they will need to overcome an energetic Bangladesh side containing many talent players in order to do so.
T20 World Cup 2024 will be the biggest yet, featuring twenty teams competing. A return to its old format will see all teams competing from the initial group stage, with only the top two making it through into Super 8s. From there, eight of those teams will battle it out in semi-finals before heading on to face each other again for glory in the final.
Disney+ Hotstar will stream the entire tournament live and digitally across India, but only the India vs. Bangladesh warm-up will feature live coverage. To stream it from any mobile device, download their app and follow their simple instructions.
South Africa vs. Pakistan
The International Cricket Council has unveiled the schedule for T20 World Cup warm-up matches. Seventeen out of 20 teams will play warm-up matches from May 27 until June 1 in USA and Trinidad and Tobago, including India taking on Bangladesh on June 1. Exact venue and time details of this fixture will be decided later; Rishabh Pant will make his comeback to India team during this match.
England and Pakistan will not play any warm-up matches prior to this edition, while South Africa will play an intra-squad match in Florida on May 29 without official T20I status so they may field all 15 players on their 15-man squads.
South Africa and Pakistan have met six times, with South Africa winning two matches while Pakistan taking four victories. South Africa hopes to break their losing streak against Babar Azam’s side, though that won’t be easy as Babar’s side may miss out on qualifying for semi-finals without winning their remaining four matches and improving their net run-rate in order to remain relevant.
New Zealand and Sri Lanka will face off in another warm-up matchup at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on Saturday. In this test match, New Zealand will be without captain Kane Williamson due to injury; his absence is bound to prove detrimental for their chances of making the semifinals.
New Zealand made an excellent start to their innings despite losing both openers early. Kane Williamson made an outstanding 22-ball 52 that led them off, followed by an excellent 65 run partnership from Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor. New Zealand boasts an impressive bowling line-up including Trent Boult and Matt Henry among their ranks.
Prior to their main competition, almost every team plays several warm-up matches to adjust to conditions and decide on their final lineup. While these non-ICC T20I matches don’t count for anything official, they still provide important opportunities to practice tactics and determine how best to defeat opposition players. Furthermore, victories in these warm-up matches can provide much-needed confidence boosts.
New Zealand vs. Afghanistan
The International Cricket Council has unveiled the schedule of warm-up matches for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, taking place between May 27 and June 1 at various venues in the US and West Indies. Unlike previous editions, these warm-up matches won’t carry official T20I status; teams can play as many squad members they see fit during these preliminary games; South Africa will conduct an intra-squad match on May 29 in Florida as an example.
This year’s International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup tournament will be hosted in both the USA and West Indies from June 1st until 29th 2024, featuring 20 teams in its first stage competition – an all-time record number! After this initial stage is completed, four of these will advance to Super 8 stage, hosted in Caribbean region.
New Zealand are one of the favorite to win the 2024 T20 World Cup despite their disappointing showing at last tournament, as evidenced by Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson returning. Afghanistan are however expected to pose serious competition, utilizing Fazalhaq Farooqi and Ibrahim Zadran’s powerful pair as a strong powerplay unit to compete.
New Zealand and Afghanistan have only met once before in T20I cricket, with New Zealand winning by eight wickets with 11 balls remaining en route to victory. Their next encounter will mark Group C’s inaugural matchup and could potentially determine which side emerges victorious from it.

Ireland vs. Ireland
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up matches will take place from May 27 to June 1 in both the USA and Trinidad and Tobago, featuring 20 teams. Co-hosted by West Indies and United States, this marks the first major ICC event to feature matches held within its borders.
The warm-up games will take place at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Texas, Broward County Stadium in Florida, Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago and Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. All 16 warm-up matches will be played on artificial surfaces; teams may field full squads in each match. The International Cricket Council released its complete schedule of warm-up fixtures on May 16.
India, who opens their campaign with Ireland in New York on April 6, will look to build on their impressive showing at the IPL. Captain Rohit Sharma remains confident in his team’s ability to repeat their success under tougher conditions: “We have many talented players who can make an impactful statement against any opposition. Our aim will be consistent play without worrying too much about them.”
Ireland have had success against India in T20Is in the past, but Rohit believes his side can prevail at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York city’s strong Irish community. Rohit stressed the importance of having support from fans; “they will come out in large numbers and help us tremendously”, as quoted by him.
Ireland will likely field the same team that defeated Pakistan in one of their three T20Is, with Gareth Delany set to play an instrumental role. Ireland are favourites to win their opening fixture but must perform at their best if they hope to avoid early elimination from competition – their warm-up match begins at 8 pm IST.
