Mayank Yadav dazzles as LSG beat PBKS and claim their inaugural win of the season. The youngster took three wickets during his four over spell and secured LSG’s victory.

Quinton de Kock (c)
Quinton de Kock stood in as captain for LSG as regular skipper KL Rahul is injured and won the toss, opting to bat first. Nicholas Pooran and De Kock combined for an outstanding partnership of 134 runs to put LSG into an advantageous position; unfortunately they weren’t able to capitalize fully but Krunal Pandya cameo helped them post a respectable 180 for 5 score.
De Kock once again stole the show as he scored an astounding fifty in just 28 balls to put his side off to an excellent start and bowled superbly to pick up two wickets and slow Punjab’s run rate.
Following his dismissal of Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh fell for one wicket, further dampening visitors’ hopes for a comeback. Even with Liam Livingstone’s late cameo innings, Punjab’s lower order could not keep pace with Prabhsimran’s regular wickets fall and fell short by 21 runs.
South African opener, 24-year-old Quinton de Kock is widely considered one of the most exciting batsmen in international cricket. His phenomenal record in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) includes scoring five centuries in eight matches – boasting the highest strike rate ever achieved by any player during T20I history and functioning as an all-round batsman who can contribute in any situation.
Nicholas Pooran (wk)
Nicholas Pooran is a Trinidadian cricketer currently playing for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League and representing West Indies limited-overs cricket team as captain in T10 format, having scored 953 runs across 29 matches (29 T10 matches in total). Additionally, Pooran made his Caribbean Premier League debut for Red Steel back in 2013!
Early on, RCB struck an impressive opening strike as Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell all hit half-centuries to lead their side to an outstanding total of 212/2 in 20 overs. LSG initially struggled but Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran put together an important 97-run stand which got their team back into contention.
Shikhar Dhawan led Punjab to an excellent start during their chase but once he fell it all went downhill quickly. Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav and Krunal Pandya all struggled to keep the run-rate steady as their opponent lost wickets regularly.
Nicholas Pooran took charge in the 12th over to turn things around for LSG and didn’t disappoint. Starting off by bowling two dot balls and hitting one over cover for six, taking his team’s score to 131/3, before smashing another six on long off off his next ball drive to long off in order to move them closer towards victory. Finally he hit Burger twice more for sixes in subsequent over to move them closer towards victory before eventually being dismissed off 48 balls for an impressive 66 score off 48 balls; his innings showcased why he is such an influential force within any cricket match environment.
Krunal Pandya (wk)
LSG pulled away late from PBKS to win by 21 runs in an intense match that kept on changing from start to finish. Nicholas Pooran and Krunal Pandya’s late cameo proved pivotal as LSG claimed victory for themselves at home. Debutant Mayank Yadav bowled an outstanding spell to dismantle PBKS’ top order and put his side into an advantageous position for victory.
KL Rahul wasn’t playing due to an injury and so Liam Livingstone came in as his replacement as an impact player for PKKS. Pooran won the toss and elected to bat first on an uneven pitch that offered some bounce, though Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran got off to a great start when opening.
Krunal Pandya joined them after just a few balls and added to their attack with some powerful sixes and fours – an all-rounder like Hardik Pandya himself!
Sam Curran delivered a slow ball and Krunal used an uppercut shot over the keeper for FOUR! A fuller one followed and Krunal pulled it over midwicket for another FOUR! Another slow one went over long-on fielder for one run.
Mayank Yadav (wk)
Debutant Mayank Yadav took three wickets in four overs to help Lucknow Super Giants defeat Punjab Kings by 21 runs at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. This marked their inaugural win of the season as well as home triumph. 22-year-old Delhi lad made a strong statement as he broke open their batting.
PBKS lost two early wickets and were never in contention for victory, although Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow put on a remarkable partnership of 100 with one another before Delhi debutant bowled some brilliant overs to break it.
Jitesh Sharma at short third man caught it, while the next over was quicker and saw the ball skied over long off for four.
He returned for the fifth over and gave away only three runs; but in the final over, he allowed a single to Livingstone off the second ball; Livingstone then hit it towards deep midwicket to fall short of meeting the required run rate.
Mohsin Khan then took over, and did not disappoint, taking two key wickets with just three overs to go in an outstanding spell that caused batsmen to mistime their shots and mistime their shots as well as taking Prabhsimran Singh’s wicket in one over. Just when it seemed the match may become tight again, Krunal Pandya made his incredible cameo with five wickets off nine overs helping Lucknow secure its target comfortably and close it out swiftly.
Mohsin Khan (wk)
LSG get off to an impressive start as they reach seven runs from their opening over. QDK hits an authoritative half-volley straight down the ground for four and then defends it successfully for seven runs off one over. Sam Curran bowls the second over.
Mohsin Khan produced a brilliant spell which left openers reeling. He hit batsmen hard with raw pace and bounce, before surprising openers with variations.
Mohsin Khan played an extraordinary late innings cameo for Punjab to avoid follow-on but could not find an end-run target with one ball remaining. Putting himself under intense fire for extended periods and showing great perseverance. He was well supported by his fellow batsmen and proved an effective bowler for India today. He will no doubt be pleased with his effort but should strive to improve on previous performances from next game onwards – after all he is an extremely gifted player! As part of his appreciation, he praised Mayank Yadav for his performance, hoping he can replicate that speed again in future matches. Additionally, he gave praise to the young members in his team, noting they possess great talent that they continue to work on hard.
