Tim Seifert
Seifert, an electric talent with both bat and glove, burst onto the scene last year when he scored one of the fastest T20 tons ever seen domestic cricket history and opened uncharted avenues for himself. Signing with San Francisco Unicorns for 2025 Cognizant Major League Cricket season brings proven T20 quality into their batting order and wicket-keeping duties.
New Zealand international Trent Boult has prior IPL experience with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Daredevils (DD), playing 66 T20Is for each. His explosive batting style and impressive glove work will add immense value to any team he joins; and is expected to open the batting for Unicorns alongside Finn Allen.
Ben McDermott
Ben McDermott is a right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper for Hobart Hurricanes of the Big Bash League. He is the son of former Australian Test fast bowler Craig McDermott and younger brother Alister. However, unlike them both he does not bowl; rather he excels as a white-ball cricketer with an affinity for hitting sixes.
McDermott made headlines throughout BBL|10 and looks poised to take his game even further with the Hurricanes. He earned best batting player honours, while also standing out in Australia’s T20I and ODI teams.
On Saturday night against Melbourne Renegades, Nikhil Chaudhary scored an ace 86 off 57 balls to help the Hurricanes overpower a slowish surface and reach an impressive total of 164. His performance was supported by Jacob Bethell’s outstanding 50-ball 87 as well as solid contributions from Nikhil Chaudhary who hit 28 runs off Power Surge overs.
Tim David’s fantastic final-ball over won the match for the Hurricanes. They won six consecutive matches to reach the final four for the first time since BBL|09. Their victory gave them an unassailable lead at the top of the ladder; another win against Adelaide Strikers tomorrow would cement their spot in the final, with potentially semi-final clashes against Brisbane Heat at Ninja Stadium likely as potential semi-final opponents – this match can add some much needed momentum heading into their remaining matches of BBL|09.
Nathan Ellis
Nathan Ellis is an inspiring example of Australian cricket success. Born and bred in New South Wales, he relocated to Tasmania as an uncommitted non-contracted player without a guarantee of state cricket when he moved there in 2017. Now three years later he’s one of Tasmania’s finest fast bowlers – quick and accurate with an affinity for slower balls as well as having an impressive economy rate he makes an inspiring example of hard work and fighting spirit being enough.
Nathan Ellis made his Australian national team debut against Bangladesh in 2021 and made an immediate impact. He scored a hat-trick on debut and went on to impress throughout his tour, leading to him being called up as injury cover for the 2021 T20 World Cup squad.
Nathan Ellis showcased an excellent skill set when performing for Tasmania and Hurricanes; using variations with ease he could pick up wickets at all phases of an innings.
Melbourne Renegades take on Hobart Hurricanes for their opening home match of BBL|14 at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong. After struggling in previous matches, it’s essential that they improve against Hobart. The Renegades hope to reestablish themselves as one of the top four teams in BBL|14 by doing just this.
Tim Seifert will look to continue his impressive form after scoring 55 runs in the previous match, along with support from players including Shai Hope and Nathan Ellis. Both teams will hope to reach the playoffs this season.
On Friday evening’s BBL fixture is set to start fifteen minutes earlier than normal at 7.30pm, so tickets can be bought via Ticketmaster website or at Gates 1 and 13. The Legends Plaza outside Gate 13 will offer exciting activities – such as giant screens to view the game – along with giveaways including Renegades swag bags. All money raised through this event will benefit families living with children diagnosed with cancer in Tasmania.
Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa has been an impressive asset to the Hurricanes this season and will look to continue his fine form in their last home game of BBL|14. Bought via mini auction, Zampa quickly proved himself an integral member of their side; boasting years of T20 experience he should pair well with Sunil Narine to present a challenge to all sides in the matchup.
Ben McDermott and Nathan Ellis will both be out due to injuries, while Tim David and Riley Meredith could both make returns. Although already qualifying for finals, the Hurricanes hope to finish out regular season strongly against Melbourne Renegades who present a tough challenge, but at home can feel confident of taking down this matchup which starts at 7.30 pm tomorrow night; fifteen minutes later than previously due to BBL scheduling changes.
