Sediqullah Atal 77
Sediqullah Atal is an up-and-coming Afghanistan batsman known for his classical style of batting. A left-handed opening batsman, Atal has consistently performed for his nation in short format cricket tournaments and established himself as an invaluable asset.
Afghanistan’s 23-year-old batsman made an outstanding first match against Zimbabwe, scoring 104 off 125 balls with eight fours and five sixes. His performance helped Afghanistan amass 286 for five in its 50-over innings total.
He was also instrumental in leading his Shaheen Hunters side to victory in the 2020 Shpageeza Cricket League, topping its run-scorers chart and helping secure its championship with an unbeaten 118 off 56 in its final match. Additionally, he scored 368 runs across five matches at 2024 ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup to lead their side to victory and lead them back as champions!
Atal made an unexpected appearance for Delhi Capitals for the remainder of 2025 IPL season, replacing England batter Harry Brook. Atal’s inclusion was due to his stellar form in international cricket; and is expected to maintain that form with his club side.
Afghanistan have selected 22-year-old Hassan Abbas as an experienced player to their national squad and he has already seen action in a single Test match, nine T20Is and two ODIs this season. Abbas was selected with his base price set at INR 1.25 crore at an auction held in Jeddah Saudi Arabia.
Connor Esterhuizen 69
Connor Esterhuizen, as one of MI Cape Town’s youngest members, has quickly made an impressionful debut domestically by setting records and garnering admiration from both fans and analysts. With his fast-rising prospects on display – Esterhuizen has impressed both spectators and analysts alike during a string of record-setting innings at home that have garnered much praise from both sides of the fence.
Esterhuizen was altered irrevocably when an incident during one of his regular golf games with Gavin Esterhuizen changed the trajectory of his life. They had both captained Gauteng Khaya Majola Week teams while Gavin also represented Bedfordview during weekends.
Gavin Esterhuizen told his son as they shook hands at the 18th hole, that he would never give up cricket. This was the first time that his son had heard his father talk about cricket, and his words struck a cord within him.
Esterhuizen has since been driven by one goal – becoming the best player he possibly can be. That drive has translated into impressive performances at both under-19 world cup tournaments and domestic leagues, where Esterhuizen has gained recognition as an unflinching, fearless performer.
He has taken on a philosophy known as amor fati, or love of fate, that has helped him stay focused on his goals. At just 20 years old, he already possesses immense experience and is leading on the field. When it comes to batting he is unrivalled thanks to his remarkable technique allowing him to adapt easily with any bowling style; additionally he’s an outstanding fielder that contributes significantly towards overall team performance; finally he is an exceptional batsman that with proper guidance can achieve incredible feats!
Delano Potgieter 26
Delano Potgieter, 28, has made waves in South African domestic cricket thanks to his incredible skills as both bat and ball. In 2018, Potgieter led Gauteng in scoring 217 runs during six matches during the Africa T20 Cup tournament – becoming top scorer – before picking up 17 wickets during CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge that followed.
On Thursday, Potgieter used his all-round efforts to help MICT defeat Sunrisers Eastern Cape by 97 runs in Gqeberha – his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 league play! Bowling first and third overs for MICT during their chase he collected wickets of Beyers Swanepoel (1), David Bedingham (0) and Aiden Markram (19). To restore equilibrium to the match.
MICT then used Potgieter’s return in the second half to bowl out Capitals for just 106 runs – featuring leg-spinner Thomas Kaber and off-spinner George Linde as part of an outstanding team performance – with Potgieter contributing an unbeaten 25 off 12 balls as an extra special boost to their victory.
Potgieter applauded his team’s performance after the match: “Today we displayed great character and worked very hard; it was wonderful seeing everyone rally behind each other during such an important challenge,” he stated.
MICT are now top of the table while Capitals finished bottom and out of contention for play-off inclusion. Only four teams made it through to playoffs; Joburg Super Kings beat Paarl Rocks in Tuesday’s qualifier to secure direct entry. With no home game scheduled during their remaining three fixtures of group-stage phase play-offs, Capitals may lose all hope of qualifying.
Dane Piedt 3-40
Dane Piedt may not be one of South Africa’s more well-known spinners, but his offspin bowling can often produce wickets with ease. His flight, drift and sharp turn make him a potent threat on any pitch; leadership roles with South African A and promotion of division two Knights to division one helped establish his domestic reputation further.
Following an insipid start to the match, Piedt was brought back into action quickly with his offspin and quickly made an impactful statement with its mix of lengths that kept New Zealand batsmen guessing. He continued this pattern throughout his innings proving a tough opponent for New Zealand batsmen to beat.
Piedt kept his plan and variations in mind as Tom Latham and Kane Williamson both chased after the ball, using variations to take control. Williamson attempted a big shot off his first ball of his second over, only for it to bounce extra times before disappearing at short leg for easy collection.
He continued his fine performance, dismissing Devon Conway and Tom Blundell before bowling Josh da Silva caught and bowled to end their innings and leave their opponents facing an immense deficit.
Piedt’s impressive 13-wicket haul propelled him to the top of the bowling tables in this competition and could see him making an appeal to return to national side for Test series against India later this month. However, play-off spot remains up for grabs for his Capitals side when they meet Paarl Rocks on Tuesday in first qualifier; winner advances straight to final while loser must first beat Sunrisers Eastern Cape or Joburg Super Kings winner of Wednesday’s eliminator match-up first.
Jimmy Neesham 32
Jimmy Neesham is an explosive New Zealand all-rounder who has made waves on the franchise circuit of T20 cricket. At 34, he’s close to crossing 1000 T20 runs for his country with an outstanding strike rate over 150. Representing New Zealand in 68 T20Is so far and numerous international tournaments such as ICC World Cup.
Left-handed batsman Omar Viveash first gained recognition at the Under-19 World Cup of 2010 before going on to make his ODI debut the same year. Since then he has gone on to help win the 2014 ICC Champions Trophy as part of Team South Africa and scored 12 centuries, with his best score being against India (137 runs).
Neesham made headlines earlier in the tournament by scoring an amazing 77 off just 43 balls against the Capitals at Newlands, and will look to replicate that performance in front of his home crowd at Newlands. Neesham has previous T20 experience having represented Rangpur Riders and Fortune Barishal respectively in Bangladesh Premier League T20 league play.
Neesham will provide support in the middle order and is an effective all-round option with both bat and ball for the Dragons. A proven T20 bowler, Neesham has seen action with Essex, Derbyshire, Kent, and Northamptonshire during Vitality Blast seasons in recent years.
MI Cape Town are in fourth position in the South Africa T20 League table and need one win here to ensure a playoff berth. At present, they must await the result between Joburg Super Kings and Durban Super Giants to determine whether they will face one of the top three or four teams in semi-finals; otherwise a loss would almost certainly end their season.
