PBKS will aim to regain their form following an inauspicious start to the season, where their batting has underwhelmed on multiple occasions. Punjab Kings vs Gujarat Titans Match Scorecard will be closely watched as they strive for improvement.
PBKS vs GT
Punjab Kings suffered a crushing defeat at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur as Gujarat Titans made no mistakes to claim a three wicket win. Punjab chose to bat first on what appeared like an ideal pitch but lost wickets at regular intervals to suffer their sixth loss of this season.
Gujarat never looked threatened in their reply as Rahul Tewatia’s unbeaten 36 off 18 balls guided them to an easy three-wicket win within 19.1 overs, with Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan making useful contributions too.
Liam Livingstone took two quick wickets early to shut down any chance of Punjab mounting a comeback, before Harshal Patel and Darshan Nalkande added two more wickets that further reduced Punjab’s prospects of amassing an impressive total.
However, as the batsmen continued their struggle at bat, PBKS captain Sam Curran finally received some reward for his hard work at the crease with the dismissal of Azmatullah Omarzai to give his side some hope of success.
Spinners were then brought in to stop Punjab’s momentum, with Amardeep Singh and Noor Ahmed both taking two wickets each in their debut over. As wickets fell regularly for Punjab, their required run rate quickly exceeded 16 runs per over.
Shubman Gill and David Miller managed to keep up their run-rate even while losing wickets during the middle overs, thanks to some fine stroke play from both batsmen. After spinners were introduced however, both fell prey to poor shots from poor shots; this proved to be pivotal moment as Gujarat quickly marched toward victory with little resistance from their opposition.
PBKS now sit at the bottom half of the table with just four points after eight matches, while GT have made strides up the standings to sixth spot. PBKS 142 for 7 in 20 overs
Ruturaj Gaikwad was not enough for Punjab Kings to rescue anything out of this match against Gujarat Titans as they struggled against spinners Sai Kishore (4/33) and Noor Ahmed (2/20). Skipper Sam Curran’s decision to launch an early attack backfired miserably as his batsmen got trapped in Sai Kishore’s spinning web and were dismissed for subpar totals.
Jagadeesha Suchith comes on to bowl (left-arm spin). After receiving an fuller delivery on leg stump from Suchith, Shahrukh tucks it in front of square leg for a single. On another fuller delivery on leg stump from Suchith he attempted to flick towards on side but missed and achieved three consecutive singles!
Livingstone comes into bat now, and on a short wide delivery slashes it past midwicket for six. He then uses another short delivery directly down the ground for four.
But, unfortunately, he could not continue and was caught deep beyond extra cover by a fielder. Suchith then bowls a slower ball that the batsman tried to hit over long-on but failed. At 17 overs PBKS were all out for 136.
At this stage, there’s more drama to unfold – Shahrukh Khan attempts to hit a short ball down the ground but it balloons upward and lands near silly point, then goes on to Odean Smith who attempts to use its leading edge against Rahul Tewatia at first slip – although Rahul Tewatia quickly claims it for first slip!
Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma provided Punjab with some brilliant lower order hitting, helping the home team to 142 in 20 overs after opener Prabhsimran Singh was out early with a duck off his second ball. Sai Kishore took wicket of Jitesh Sharma soon afterwards but Tewatia’s late cameo ensured they did not succumb in the last over and they held onto victory by five wickets; not the prettiest victory but will do just fine!
GT 146 for 7 in 19.1 overs
Punjab’s batsmen struggled on an unsuitable pitch, as wickets kept falling frequently. Even Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma couldn’t do much with the bat; thus allowing Gujarat bowlers to pull off an impressive win for themselves.
Even after losing wickets repeatedly, Gujarat never lost sight of their target. Rahul Tewatia’s fine unbeaten 36 off 18 balls ensured they reached victory with three wickets still remaining.
The chase began well for the visitors but quickly went south as Wriddhiman Saha and David Miller fell. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan made up an important 41-run stand to keep their side alive until Liam Livingstone took two quick wickets to stop their run chase.
Mohit Sharma and Noor Ahmad took quick wickets to leave GT reeling at 104/5. Darshan Nalkande drew an unfair review from Harpreet Brar when his short ball caused too much restriction; that review was upheld and was determined to have passed above head height.
But then Tewatia took to the crease and unleashed some boundary-laden blows – twice clearing the ropes on his way to reaching 50 off just 16 balls!
GT eventually reached 146/7 off 19.1 overs, defeating PBKS by three wickets.
Rahul Tewatia made an instant impactful contribution as Gujarat Titans made the chase look easy in just a few overs, taking away victory from PBKS with ease and becoming their go-to guy when needed – providing invaluable role modelling to younger members in the side and helping ensure long-term success in the long run. This marks his second successful chase act this season and cements him as an essential member of their side – turning into one of their premier players and role models for youngsters who look up to him for guidance when needed.
Final score
At Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, Gujarat Titans overcame Punjab Kings to secure three crucial points in IPL 2024. After restricting PBKS to just 142 runs before successfully chasing it down with Rahul Tewatia’s unbeaten 36 from 18 deliveries off Rahul Livingstone for 18 deliveries in 19.1 overs, then Shubman Gill and Miller being dismissed quickly by Livingstone revived some hope for them; but with Omarzai wicket and Rabada giving away 20 runs off final overs put this match out of reach; GT won by two wickets to secure third position overall and move up one place to sixth position overall on table!
