Player of the Match
Andre Russell earned the Player of the Match award for this match due to his remarkable performances with both bat and ball, scoring 42 off 23 balls with three fours and three sixes en route to helping KKR overcome an underperforming total of 124 with two balls left in play. Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik provided valuable assistance as well.
At Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring a respectable total of 261/6 in 20 overs with openers Phil Salt and Sunil Narine leading scoring with 75 and 71 respectively; their middle order continued contributing in spades throughout their innings.
KKR’s bowlers were superb and never gave Punjab’s batsmen any opportunity to score runs. They regularly picked up wickets while keeping runs at bay – with Shivam Mavi, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakravarthy being particularly notable performers as all managed 6 runs per over and picked up wickets each.
Punjab had suffered two losses prior to this match but they came back strong. Though they started poorly when losing Rana and Gill in their opening three overs, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Jonny Bairstow provided them with a good platform which allowed the rest of their batting lineup to finish the job off successfully.
They weren’t given enough time to build an impressive total, yet still managed to keep their run rate high and take big shots. Shikhar Dhawan’s run-out in the final over proved costly for them as they eventually lost. Captain KL Rahul admitted it had been a difficult night where they should have applied themselves better as wickets continued to fluctuate and dew did not assist as they attempted fast cricket; adding that good sides must adapt and assess conditions quickly in order to be competitive.
Man of the Match
Punjab Kings earned their fifth win of the season and advanced to fifth on the points table with an easy five-wicket victory against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 3. Mohsin Khan led their bowling attack, taking three wickets while Henriques, Bishnoi and Shami also contributed one each – but their batsmen provided an even stronger finish with an emphatic five-wicket victory!
De Kock, Williamson and Narine had an outstanding run chase performance for KKR with each hitting over fifty runs en route to an impressive run total. Ayush Badoni, Jason Roy and Shashank Singh contributed with half-centuries as well – but Gill and Lynn set it all in motion with their 62-run opening stand that ensured that KKR could not miss out on an amazing total.
Punjab batsmen truly dazzled everyone by scoring 261 runs easily in 18 overs, led by Mohsin Khan, Henriques and Shami who all bowled well while Bishnoi and Yudhvir Singh Charak were great debut performers for their teams.
Narine makes quick work of scoring off his first over, taking advantage of its slow pace to hit an aerial four off delivery 3 and another four from delivery 4 before flicking delivery 6 to fine leg for one single to take his team towards 50 partnerships for sixth wicket.
KKR bowlers started the next over off well as they bowled several loose balls. Unfortunately, Russell found some space with his bat and hit two big fours and sixes in an over. Mohsin finally picked up a wicket off the second ball with an outstanding throw from Mohsin who picked up his first wicket since returning from injury with Ayush Badoni taking an excellent catch at keeper’s end to dismiss Henriques for a duck; as Punjab were starting to lose control and needed something special from them to win back into this match-up now.

Eoin Morgan, captain of KKR, says taking risks during their chase paid off. Though disappointed when he got out early on in the innings, he remains content that they managed to cross over successfully and note how difficult the wicket could have been, but they managed to remain calm under pressure.
Sam Curran enters for the final over and concedes only one single to Salt. The next ball he chips on-side to Narine for another single before going after another one but missing. Thereafter he takes two swings that misses before taking another dot ball off-course delivery and swinging twice more for no gain – finally giving up two singles that Salt hits to hit for 4.
KKR needed 42 off the final over to secure a nine-wicket victory and they accomplished it with ease thanks to Narine’s six. Now at 6-4, they will look to extend their winning streak when taking on Kohli’s Delhi on Tuesday; winning means going top of the table! It was Rahul Tripathi and Eoin Morgan’s brilliant innings that enabled this record-setting chase; further helped by only losing three wickets during it! They have made an immediate impactful statement this tournament so far and seem poised as potential title favourites against Punjab when faced against in their last Super Over match-up!
