RR vs LSG
Rajasthan Royals look to recover after falling agonisingly short against Delhi Capitals in a Super Over thriller on Wednesday by taking on Lucknow Super Giants at home on Saturday, with Sanju Samson hoping to prevent their first loss since 2024 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
RR will hope to make use of their high run-rate and capitalize on it by building up a lead in the table. A victory here would give them three-point edge over Mumbai Indians in second position.
Before this matchup, these teams had met six times in IPL history, with Royal Challengers leading head-to-head four wins out of six matches this season versus LSG winning only two victories out of 6.
With so much at stake for both teams, this game promises to be an intriguing battleground.
LSG remain competitive despite suffering two defeats to open the season, as Nicholas Pooran leads them with 71 runs scored across five innings and Shardul Thakur has taken 11 wickets across seven matches as their top bowlers.
Prior to their clash against RR, the visitors will aim to improve their batting performance. While they have found it challenging to score during Powerplay sessions, and have yet to post an aggregate total above 200 in six overs of playing time.
The Royals are on an impressive run, scoring more than 300 runs in six overs in both of their most recent matches and performing admirably under pressure. Sanju Samson has been especially effective with the bat while Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel and Nitish Rana have also all made significant contributions.
Before this match, the Royals will be without Ajinkya Rahane who had scans done on Friday and has been ruled out for the remainder of this tournament. Riyan Parag will assume leadership of their side until Ajinkya can return.
Rajasthan Royals vs Lucknow Super Giants
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, became the youngest player ever to appear in an IPL match when he made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday night as an impact sub.
Hailing from Samastipur in Bihar, Suryavanshi made his first-class debut last January before being selected at auction for INR 1.1 crore in November last year after scoring an amazing record-breaking 58-ball century against Australia U-19s that caught IPL scouts’ eye as soon as his record-breaking knock got his attention by IPL scouts who took notice after witnessing Suryavanshi set off IPL scouts’ radar as an impact sub.
Aiden Markram and Ayush Badoni each struck speedy half-centuries as LSG raced to 180 after opting to bat first. LSG recovered from 54 for 3 in the eighth over, with Markram hitting three fours and six sixes before being caught by Riyan Parag off Yuzvendra Chahal in the 20th over.
RR were on course for an easy victory until Avesh Khan’s devastating death bowling derailed what appeared to be a regular chase.
First he dismissed set batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal attempting to hit a yorker-length delivery behind point only to be caught by Avesh on her pads, then denied Shubham Dubey a run-a-ball as she attempted to play a scoop shot – both devastating blows from Avesh.
Hetmyer’s unbeaten 82 from 67 balls secured victory for Rajasthan against Super Giants since they first met back in IPL 2022. Yuzvendra Chahal proved his value with four wickets taken for Rajasthan courtesy of Yuzvendra Chahal taking 4/41.
