Sunrisers Hyderabad secured an emphatic 67-run victory against Delhi Capitals to advance into second position on the points table. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma helped Sunrisers score an impressive total.
Rishabh Pant was unable to reach his target with his bat, and Heinrich Klaasen dismissed him in the nineteenth over. Both sides displayed impressive cricket skills during this highly entertaining match. DC 199 in 19.1 Overs
After an unimpressive start to their season, Delhi Capitals have slowly found their footing and won two of their last three matches – most recently against Sun Risers Hyderabad at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday in Match 35. They hope to maintain this positive run when facing off against them once more on Saturday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Match 36.
Rishabh Pant will look to maintain his impressive form after an impressive showing against Gujarat Titans last time out. He has been in superb form this season and will look to carry on this momentum against defending champions ATK.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma led Sunrisers Hyderabad’s run chase, amassing 266/7 in 20 overs under Pat Cummins. Head and Sharma combined to score 131 runs in just 6.2 overs as Pat Cummins’ side raced towards an impressive total. Unfortunately for DC though, they were bowled out for just 199 in 19.1 overs.
Khaleel Ahmed set off well for the visitors, but his decision to bowl short deliveries allowed Head and Abhishek to capitalise on their deep crease positioning by hitting short balls over midwicket for sixes to put the hosts back in charge. Left-arm seamer Abhishek caught in the covers before bowler Anrich Nortje and Axar Patel were all dismissed to complete his four wicket haul and complete his four wicket haul.
SRH 133 in 7 Overs
Nitish Reddy and Travis Head resuscitated SRH after an initial slow start with an unbeaten partnership of 96 runs before Head fell for 58 to Avesh Khan. Reddy continued playing aggressively, smashing two fours and sixes during his unbeaten innings of 76 off only 57 balls; Heinrich Klaasen contributed well by scoring 42 not out off 19 balls to support Reddy.
KKR bowlers continue to dominate SRH batsmen. Sunil Narine bowls an over with only three runs coming off it; only Markram managed three before he guided into deep midwicket where Harshit Rana took an excellent catch from Markram; Suyash Sharma entered at no. 7.
Starc has continued his economical approach, which Henriques exploited by hitting him for six and four in one over. Now, KKR are looking to narrow their advantage further.
SRH 125 in 6 Overs
Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head led Hyderabad’s record setting powerplay total against RCB & PBKS of 125/0, setting an IPL record. CSK and KKR both posted powerplay scores of 105/0 that day; CSK outscored both with its score!
SRH have enjoyed an excellent start to this season’s tournament. Even after suffering the early loss of Ishant Sharma, they looked set for a big total.
Head exploded early with two fours and sixes off Lalit Yadav for two fours and sixes in just three deliveries to help push them towards 40/0 by the end of the second over, followed by two fours and sixes off Khaleel Ahmed to reach 62/0 after only two overs!
SRH continued their dominance of the powerplay and scored only five runs during the final over. They eventually reached 266/7 from 20 overs for an innings win by 67 runs – their fourth-highest total this season and first time losing wicket in powerplay; nevertheless, despite this setback they are in prime position for playoff qualification.
SRH 125 in 4 Overs
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma displayed an outstanding power-hitting display in the first six overs at Arun Jaitley Stadium to help their side post an enormous total. These openers tore apart Delhi bowlers for more than 20 runs an over, scoring massive runs at an incredible strike rate.
Head began his assault by hitting Khaleel Ahmed for two fours and one six in his opening over. Later in the over he then struck three sixes off spinner Lalit Yadav as they combined forces to take SRH from 2 overs to 40/0 in just overs!
In his third over, Smith torched Anrich Nortje for 21 runs off 16 balls – striking three sixes and one four off Kuldeep Yadav spinner in his final over to help SRH reach 103/0 after five overs.
Head’s unbeaten hundred off just 16 balls was also one of two fastest scores ever scored during an IPL powerplay phase game, surpassing Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2017 when they recorded an unbeaten score of 105/0 in powerplay phase play. Head is joint fastest player ever to reach 100 off IPL history along with Jake Fraser-McGurk; this marks his second 50 in 20 balls this season!
SRH 125 in 3 Overs
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad posted an incredible opening partnership of 131 runs in just six overs, which marked one of the quickest team hundreds ever seen in IPL history and also achieved the highest Powerplay score ever seen in T20 cricket (where ball-by-ball data is available). This also set an IPL record.
SRH opening pair have set several records in the 17th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). Their onslaught resulted in the highest first six overs total ever and highest team 100 score ever seen during a T20 game – achieved within just 5.6 overs by Nottinghamshire against Durham back in 2017.
This victory marks the highest margin of victory by any side in a match of 150 balls or more when batting first, surpassing Brisbane Heat’s previous record win of 47 runs against Melbourne Stars during BBL play.
SRH had an incredible Powerplay against LSG on Tuesday, scoring 107/0 to become the second highest total ever seen in men’s T20 cricket and surpassing the 69 run gap between RCB (23/3) and GT (27) from Saturday’s match. Furthermore, they managed 146 sixes during this Powerplay period which is unprecedented among IPL teams.
SRH 125 in 2 Overs
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma put on an incredible partnership of 131 runs in just 6.2 overs for the opening wicket. Head hit an astounding knock of 89 off 32 balls with 11 fours and five sixes; Abhishek scored 46 off just 12 balls; this feat enabled Sunrisers Hyderabad to post 266/7 runs within 20 overs.
Head’s four consecutive fours and six off Anrich Nortje allowed him to be dispatched in record time as Head reached 50 off 16 balls with one more boundary coming off the final ball of that over.
Khaleel Ahmed returned to the attack and attempted to slow the run rate by pitching outside off, where Head hit it for six and Abhishek hit for three more sixes in just two overs as SRH raced past 100 runs within just two overs.
Bumrah comes into the attack and attempts to contain the run rate, but one fuller delivery hits an inside edge for four runs and goes for four as Bumrah then concedes a wide. Heinrich Klaasen became the second wicket to fall as he got hit by bounce and was caught at short third man.

IPL Powerplay matches typically feature batsmen launching into their bowlers like no one’s business; openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma from SunRisers Hyderabad went on an absolute rampage against Delhi Capitals to set the scene and break multiple records during these six overs.
In just 6.2 overs, they put together an incredible 131-run opening partnership – the joint-fastest in IPL history and highest ever recorded in a match where ball-by-ball data is available. Over that short time span they hit 24 boundaries, including two sixes. And only once were they dismissed.
SRH reached an unprecedented score of 125/0 in their Powerplay, the highest ever seen in this format of the game. Their openers also set an IPL record by hitting 21 fours and sixes during an innings – surpassing what had previously been accomplished by KKR against RCB last season.
Pat Cummins, captain of Southern Rockhamptonshire (SRH), notes that it was an entertaining match, with both sides contributing strongly. Bowlers found things difficult during the Powerplay but things improved once the pitch began slowing down.
