LSG are in pursuit of 165 on what appeared to be a slow wicket, however Ayush Badoni plays his usual shot through mid wicket for a six.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have given Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) an impressive start, scoring 100 in PowerPlay for an IPL record speedy start. For detailed updates on this thrilling match, check out the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Lucknow Super Giants match scorecard.
SRH vs LSG
On Wednesday, two of the top four teams in the Indian Premier League face-off at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium: Sunrisers Hyderabad host Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). SRH will look to rebound after suffering a disappointing loss against Mumbai Indians while LSG look for their inaugural win of 2019.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma will be key components for SRH when they bat first; these two have amassed 549 runs between them this season, so will look to add to that total against Super Giants.
Krishnappa Gowtham bowled a short and full delivery on the leg side that Abhishek Sharma took advantage of to hit for four. It marked his second boundary in as many overs.
Gowtham delivered another short ball on the leg side and Abhishek played it to the fence for another four, becoming his third boundary of this over.
Abhishek hits it straight to the boundary for a single off Yash Thakur’s short leg-side delivery. Subsequently, Yash delivers another slower one to middle stump and Abhishek attempts to hit it over but misses and KL Rahul successfully takes out Abhishek at short mid wicket.
Naveen-ul-Haq bowled an off-spinner who hit it full and on off, and Travis Head made no mistake slamming it over the cover region for six. This hit marks Travis’ 14th four of IPL and brought him over 500 runs in tournament.
He is averaging over 50 in his last three games, showing no sign of slowing down. The South African remains one of the most consistent hitters in this tournament and has disproved any claims of unfit bowlers by being so prolific.
SRH have shown their faith in their opening batsmen, which is understandable given that they have scored over 200 runs over seven innings at home and hit 92 sixes during this time. Therefore, it will be crucial for them to get off to a fast start against the Giants.
SRH will likely employ their winning combination and feature Mayank Agarwal at No. 3, Abhishek Sharma at No. 4, T Natarajan may replace one or both, depending on which batters perform better; Marco Jansen or Glenn Phillips could come into the side as impact players depending on who else bats well; Jaydev Unadkat may get rest but it is unlikely he will return this season due to limited dewfall; therefore both sides should score large scores; this puts pressure on bowlers!
