Mumbai Indians, reigning Women’s Premier League Champions, face Delhi Capitals for their third victory of the Women’s Premier League season at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
Both teams are competing to reach the semi-finals; should either one of them triumph this one would secure their position within four-spot league table standings and move past fourth-place Punjab to claim one.
Jemimah Rodrigues of Delhi won the toss and elected to bowl first against MI’s potency-packed batting lineup led by Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee, hoping that their power hitting can overcome the difficulties associated with bowling first on an unforgiving pitch.
At first, both teams attempted to score runs during the powerplay phase of play. But it was Delhi bowlers who showed great discipline by restricting opposition runs to 23 for 2 in their initial five overs.

Mumbai Indians, currently the Women’s Premier League 2026 defending champions and current leaders, face Delhi Capitals in their 13th matchup of WPL 2026 in order to salvage any hopes they have of reaching the final four and qualifying for play-offs.

This decision proved risky but smart in hindsight. But the team did manage to restrict MI to just 139 runs, thanks to fast-starters Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee scoring quick runs for their side and bowlers who did not allow MI batters to settle comfortably into their batting positions.
However, their lack of fielding discipline and missed chances in the death overs proved costly. Furthermore, Nandini Sharma struggled with her pace and proved costly during her overs. Therefore, even after having made a good start they are currently having issues in this department.

Mumbai Indians appear to have all but conceded playoff race. Losing four times this season and suffering four defeats have dealt a severe blow to their playoff hopes and comeback efforts; now it will be important for them to rebound strongly in their next match and achieve victory once more.
