India’s national cricket team, commonly referred to as the Men in Blue, is one of the most beloved teams worldwide. Administered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India and representing India internationally in international competition, this squad has won many major tournaments around the globe.
India boasts an excellent record against Bangladesh in Test matches, winning most games comfortably. But Bangladesh have not been pushovers and have managed to take down India on several occasions as well. On 14 September at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, India and Bangladesh will play their inaugural matchup. India currently lead their group and are hoping to continue their winning run when facing Bangladesh.
Bangladesh may be newcomers to ODI cricket, but they have already proved they can stand up to some of the biggest teams. Their performance against England proved that they are more than capable of challenging established sides such as England and Australia in this format of cricket. Bangladesh will look to continue showing that their batting can match up against world number one Australia here too.
Bangladesh have an impressive record against India in one-day internationals (ODIs), winning most of their games against them and even their last meeting during the World Cup proved thrilling. Bangladesh have proven themselves a formidable ODI opponent and should be one of the favourites to reach the final of this competition.
They currently sit as runners-up in their pool and must win all three remaining ODIs to advance to the final. But this won’t be easy as they must defeat both leaders of Sri Lanka and Pakistan to advance.
Bangladesh Cricket Board have hired Mahesh Chand, an ODI veteran from both Pakistan and Bangladesh who played over 500 ODIs for both nations in his long career, in a bid to improve performance in one day internationals (ODIs). Chand hopes to turn things around for his national side by employing innovative coaching tactics in practice matches against Bangladesh cricket players.
Bangladesh will enter their next match against India with confidence after beating Sri Lanka and will aim to turn that momentum into victory this time. India have not managed a series victory against Bangladesh in ODIs so far but may try their luck this time round.
Assuming the pitch will be dry and seaming, both teams will aim to play an expansive game and provide fans with a memorable spectacle. Much will depend on who wins the toss and whether they elect to field or bat; should India choose bat, its spin bowlers could prove invaluable in pressurizing opponents such as Kuldeep Axar and Varun – they have performed strongly so far during this tournament and may pose the greatest threat to Bangladesh’s run chase efforts.
