India vs Australia 1st ODI
Australia defeated India by seven wickets in a rain-shortened opening ODI at Perth’s Optus Stadium. India vs Australia 2nd ODI
India was defeated by Australia at Adelaide Oval after an intense and high-scoring match that went back and forth, giving Australia their series win and only third time finishing bilateral ODI series down under with one game left to spare.
India needed heroic performances from captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to pull it back and remain competitive for victory in Sydney in their final match.
India started off strongly in their run chase, building on a solid opening partnership between Rohit and Shreyas Iyer of 118 runs.
Unfortunately, after that they failed to progress as Axar Patel and Harshit Rana failed to provide India with an effective foundation with their bat, and after Shubman Gill was dismissed by Mitchell Starc in the ninth over, momentum for India evaporated completely.
India reached 261/6 at the end of their 50 overs despite an inauspicious start, led by Rohit’s score of 73 and Shreyas Iyer’s of 61. It was a solid effort by their team; unfortunately however, they fell just short of their target by just four runs.

All-rounder Washington Sundar was equally impressive, scoring an unbeaten 49 off just 23 balls to lead India to an emphatic five-wicket triumph.
The match promises to be an intriguing affair as both teams vie for their spot in the final. Australia are formidable opponents when it comes to one-day international cricket, having won six tournaments over 10 years – but India have been making up ground recently, winning four out of the five head-to-head contests between these two sides in recent seasons.
India possess an undoubted advantage in the batting department as well. They will hope Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Co can lead them to victory in the final ODI; their performances during Hobart were pivotal in levelling out the series and will look to repeat those results here.
Will be interesting to witness the Indian bowlers perform on a surface that might provide batsmen some assistance. Hobart’s wicket was not as ideal for fast bowlers than Mohali but allowed spinners some purchase.
India have made no changes to their squad for the third ODI. Shreyanka Patil and Bharati Fulmali, having last represented India at the 2024 T20 World Cup, have returned. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead as captain with Smriti Mandhana acting as vice captain; Jemimah Rodrigues made her India debut last time out and will look to continue her good form this time round.
