India’s devastating pace attack dismantled Ireland with ease to secure their opening victory of the T20 World Cup with an eight-wicket victory, led by Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj who all shined with the ball.
In the Ireland Cricket Team vs India National Cricket Team match scorecard, a pivotal moment occurred when Andrew Balbirnie misjudged a Mohammed Siraj delivery on the leg side and was caught at fine leg. This dismissal showcased Siraj’s tactical bowling and added to the competitive momentum of the game, reflecting the intensity captured in the scorecard as both teams fought for dominance on the field.
Hardik Pandya
India’s speedy pace attack easily overpowered Ireland on a difficult pitch in their World Cup opening match with an eight-wicket win. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj all took three wickets each while Gareth Delany provided Ireland’s only hope with an entertaining 14-ball 26 not out.
Rohit Sharma wisely won the toss and elected to bowl first, which proved an astute choice. Irish batsmen were completely overcome by Indian seamers using the prodigious bounce and variable pace of the pitch to their advantage. Hardik Pandya led this attack taking three wickets within his first two overs alone while Bumrah and Arshdeep both delivered impressive bowling spells which hit Harry Tector hard enough on the helmet that it left him limping off the field.
Paul Stirling of Ireland was disappointed with his side’s performance on Friday but acknowledged the role the pitch played in their failure. He noted how they kept losing wickets as they struggled to grip onto the ball; adding that taking early wickets would make life tough for their opposition. Stirling mentioned how his side will return here for their match against Canada in two days and was confident they would give an excellent effort against them.
India proved too strong for an inept Irish team and won by eight wickets to secure first place in Pool A. India have won nine out of ten against Ireland so far during this tournament and remain undefeated overall.
Rohit Sharma will look to select a balanced side for their next match against Pakistan, perhaps dropping Yashasvi Jaiswal and replacing Axar Patel with Shivam Dube. Ireland have an evenly balanced attack containing power-hitters like Andy Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker and Gary Wilson as well as shock absorbers such as left-arm spinner George Dockrell who could all take wickets and pose issues to Indian batsmen.
Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah made an outstanding return to international cricket as India thrashed Ireland 42-0 in New York, and took three wickets in helping his side kick-start their World Cup campaign with an emphatic win. Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh both also showed strong bowling performances for India; both taking two wickets each.
Ireland were never in contention as they faced India’s formidable pace attack at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, led by Arshdeep, Siraj, Bumrah and Hardik Pandya – they memorably dismantled Irish batters for most of the innings before keeping Ireland at bay with ease.
Rohit Sharma led India’s run chase with a 36-ball half century, while Rishabh Pant kept things steady after Kohli fell at one end. They led their hosts towards victory before Kohli was dismissed for hitting an amazing reverse ramp six over wicketkeeper’s head which brought huge cheers from fans – it nearly brought about 150 when rain intervened to end it early.
India secured top two finish in their group with this win and will face Pakistan on Sunday in their next matchup. Ireland must defeat Canada on Friday if they want any chance at reaching Super 8s.
Bumrah earned the man of the match award with an exceptional bowling performance, taking 2 wickets off four overs for figures of 2 for 24 from four overs, limiting Irish total to an innocuous total. Furthermore, his pace caused havoc for their batsmen when run-chase began; Jasprit showcased his versatility by running well to take an excellent diving catch to dismiss Ireland opener Craig Young – unfortunately an umpire review thwarted this chance to grab another wicket immediately!
Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh is an outstanding bowler who has found an invaluable mentor in Kagiso Rabada. Singh boasts huge potential and is rapidly emerging as one of the finest death-overs bowlers worldwide; he will look to build upon this form at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
Ireland and India will face off in what promises to be a tightly contested T20 international, both teams seeking victory against one another. Ireland have lost all three games so far but hope to take down one of the top seeds with an upset, hoping for revenge against their historic foe India who have an impressive track record against Ireland in T20 internationals and avoid another humiliating loss in T20s.
Rohit Sharma led his Indian side with an excellent fifty, while Rishabh Pant added some excitement with an audacious reverse ramp six. Their bowling quartet comprised of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh proved lethal with the ball to secure an easy eight-wicket win at Nassau County Stadium in New York.
Ireland: 96/10 in 16 overs
George Dockrell takes an astounding catch at deep midwicket to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav! On its long hop from the bowler, the ball hits Suryakumar’s bat edge before dropping in front of an excited wicketkeeper!
Mohammed Siraj
India made an emphatic start to their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign at Nassau County Stadium, New York, by defeating Ireland by 8 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took charge, quickly bowling Ireland out for only 96 runs despite Gareth Delany’s 14-ball half century; Ireland simply never looked likely to recover against India.
India began their run chase steadily and built up a good platform, until Rohit Sharma was dismissed for an impressive 36 off 17 balls by Ben White – providing much-needed momentum and setting the pace of this run chase.
Rishabh Pant soon joined him, and they formed an essential partnership. Both shared fours and sixes, but it was Pant’s incredible reverse scoop that sealed victory; an astounding shot that may well be one of the greatest ways ever seen in T20 cricket!
Rishabh Pant proved his mettle by smashing fours over the bowler’s head to end off an exciting final over for India and prevent their lead from being compromised.
Indians’ success, however, was marred by Hardik Pandya’s leg injury which limited them to only two fit players for the remainder of the match and made maintaining momentum more challenging than expected.
Virat Kohli appeared to have suffered what looked like a shoulder injury after being struck in the elbow by Josh Little’s delivery, seen whirling his arm around and appearing painful. We hope it won’t be serious and hope Virat is back out on the field shortly.
