Afghanistan managed to recover well after an uneven start in their innings and reach 151 for 6. Unfortunately, Bangladesh took advantage of an inept field performance and several dropped catches to run away with the game. Emon and Tanzim both hit fifties for Bangladesh before Rishad Hossain and Nurul Hasan completed their innings successfully.

In December 2016, Afghanistan cricket team visited United Arab Emirates to play three T20 Internationals against Bangladesh.

Afghanistan won all three games 3-0; this series marked the first between non-Test playing countries and Bangladesh using this format, and also marked Afghanistan’s first ODI series against a test-playing side. West Indies opener Johnson Charles toiled to score 17 runs off 17 balls at run-a-ball rate while Evin Lewis and Alick Athanaze made no impactful contributions during the early stages.

But Matthew Forde and Shamar Springer gave West Indies some hope of an unlikely comeback by picking up two wickets each; Forde had Sediqullah Atal nicking short balls straight to Khary Pierre while Springer took an exceptional one-handed catch in deep third to put pressure on their hosts.

Afghanistan were well in control, led by Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran whose pairing was instrumental in maintaining an average deficit of only three runs per over.

Springer turned the game with an inspired 19th-over hat-trick of his own. First he claimed Zaiur Rahman Sharifi by bowling him out lbw for one run before picking off Abdollah Ahmadzai and Shahidullah with clever pace variations and hard-to-hit low full tosses that proved unplayable by both. Springer will no doubt be relieved to put this disappointing series behind them as he battles for inclusion in India’s 15-man squad next month.
