Afghanistan vs Bangladesh
Afghanistan have completely outshone Bangladesh in the second ODI. After starting slowly, they quickly reached 120/2 around halfway mark – something Bangladesh could never match up against – with their spinners picking up wickets with ease and Nabi and Rashid both playing key roles as they picked off eight wickets for just 23 runs lost! Allah Ghazanfar led with five wickets while Nabi Sami, and Rashid all contributed one each as key destroyers.
Rahmat Shah made history when he became the first Afghan batsman ever to join ODI cricket’s 4000 club with a fifty at Eden Gardens on Thursday, becoming part of an exclusive club spanning all forms of international cricket. Rahmat is sure to look forward to another good performance at Sharjah in two matches so far; all in all a fantastic performance by Rahmat. ODI 1
Afghanistan used an impressive performance with both bat and ball to defeat Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi’s opening ODI of their three-match series.
Rashid Khan bowled four fourfers and finished with figures of 3/38 as he completed 200 ODI wickets for Afghanistan.
Emon and Tanzim both scored fifties for Bangladesh but never managed to reach competitive totals; their fielding let them down too, dropping several important catches that would have put them on an advantageous footing.
Afghanistan bowled well to keep their opponents to 221 runs in their opening innings, led by Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah who shared an essential 52 off 73 ball partnership for Afghanistan – their respective seven and 32nd half centuries, marking one entering 4000 ODI runs as first Afghanistan cricketer ever!
Afghanistan began their second innings well with Zadran playing some exquisite covers against Taskin and Mahmud before being caught by Tanvir Islam off a straight delivery from Nangyal Kharoti off an offside delivery from Nangyal Kharoti – not long after though, as Afghanistan kept on building their innings with Nabi reaching his maiden ODI century off 103 balls soon after, with Shahidi contributing quickfire 40 off 49 deliveries before finishing off their game with a boundary off Nabi off a quicker fuller length delivery by Nabi off quick fuller length delivery from Nabi off an offside delivery from Nangyal Kharoti off a straight delivery from Nangyal Kharoti.

Rashid led Afghanistan’s effort and took 6/144 in his spell on a wicket that turned nicely, while Bangladesh batsmen struggled against Afghanistan spinners that threatened from both ends; Farooqi in particular struggled as his lengths kept getting wrong and overpitching, ultimately costing Bangladesh runs. Jaker Ali on debut also helped in the death overs.
Ibrahim Zadran and Azmatullah started well but quickly fell prey to Afghanistan spinners. Their required rate skyrocketed as Bangladesh batters lost discipline; now even at 1-1 we head into Monday for the decider at same venue.
Rahmat Shah made history, becoming the first batsman from Afghanistan to score 4000 runs in one-day international cricket, surpassing both Shane Warne and Anil Kumble’s records by reaching this feat. Additionally, he entered an exclusive club of players having taken 100 wickets during an ODI innings.
T20I 1
Afghanistan and Bangladesh’s cricket match was an engaging tale, packed with intensity and twist battles. Each over was full of suspense as players responded with poise and skill to each changing situation – truly showcasing both teams at their finest, with each player playing an integral part in key moments of competition.
Bangladesh batsmen found it difficult to match Afghanistan’s world-class spin bowling. Most of their innings was spent being contained, as wickets fell regularly. But then in the death overs, Bangladesh batsmen took matters into their own hands and played fearless cricket – eventually coming together as one to reach a competitive total score.
Rahmat Shah made history on October 17 by becoming the first batsman from Afghanistan to score an ODI fifty against Bangladesh, yet on the very same day was sidelined with a calf injury and is out of contention for further ODIs in this series.
Bangladesh openers Emon and Tanzim played brave innings but could not save their team from another collapse.

Afghanistan began the match strongly thanks to openers Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon’s blistering start, racing to an explosive 109-run partnership in just 15 overs – setting Afghanistan up for what appeared to be an impressive total before their batting collapse saw them struggle until Bangladesh capitalised by winning by three wickets.
Rahmat Shah made history when he became the first Afghan player ever to score 4000 runs in One Day International cricket ODI matches, hitting fifty runs along the way and becoming second highest run-scorer for his nation. Unfortunately, however, his performance was overshadowed by two key player losses during that campaign.
Afghanistan made up for their early-innings collapse by recovering to post a respectable total of 151 before embarking on an effective run chase with help from Rashid Khan and Azmatullah. Unfortunately, Afghanistan batters could not make the most of their hard work as they lost more than one catch during crucial moments.
Given that Afghanistan boasts one of the best spinner-friendly pitches, it will be interesting to witness how Bangladesh batsmen fare. Their struggles during Asia Cup will likely remain an area of focus and they must address this quickly or face difficulty competing against a quality Afghan side.
